How many of you can actually keep one of these guys alive ?

I have two of them in my 10 gallon nano and the one already once got into my aquaclear hang on filter and lost half his body and is still alive, today I just noticed him stuck to the guard on my maxijet 400...

the other one however seems to be a tad smarter (for now)

I'm just wondering who keeps these poor guys alive as they seem to get into EVERYTHING that'll kill em

I guess you could cover your phs just like for an anemone, but you still have to worry about ample food for them.

Mine stayed of trouble while there was enough algae in the tank for it to eat. But as soon as the algae was gone, it kept climbing over the overflow and I would have to resuce it. So I ended up taking it to the LFS. It probably would have starved eventually since there was no longer any algae for it to eat.

does anyone know if you can supplement food for the slugs with seweed that you would use for herbavores like tangs?

They aren't general grazers. Their diets are pretty specific, and they need whole cells (i.e. live algae) since they feed on the algae by piercing it and sucking out the juice. It is possible to suppliment their diets, but to be able to do that you need to know which species you have. Since there are at least 3 species of lettuce slug in the hobby, all of which look fairly similar, it's hard to tell you what they'll eat without a picture of your slug. You could try to determine the species yourself and read about their diets at www.seaslugforum.net . The species you want to check out are Elysia crispata, E. clarkii, and E. diomedea.
