Leveling questions for new Oceanic 215

Hello All - I recently got my hands on a new Oceanic 215 with Oceanic Stand coupled with a Perfecto Prestige canopy. Sweet little setup.

Question is that across the 73" of the stand, the tank is out of level 7/16" (almost 1/2") side to side. front to back is perfect. Would shims along the perimeter solve this issue or should the floor be leveled via a professional contractor with Self Leveling compound. I have heard some horror stories.

I appreciate the assistance.

1/2 sounds like a big shim, could you turn the stand over and level it to your floor with a plan?

Does the tank have a plastic trim around the bottom? If so you could take a 2"x4"x 6' long and rip a shim from the edge that goes from 7/16" to nothing at 6'. Make two of these fasten them to the top of the stand and sit the tank on them.

Or you coud make them and add to the bottom of the stand. If there is wood trim on the top of the stand that goes a ways up on the tank, you would be better off to add the shim's to the bottom of the stand.

Waynum - I am unsure about what u mean about leveling with a plan, can you ellaborate? Did you mean a plank?

I may be contemplating cutting those 2x4's into the necessary shims and attaching to the base of the tank. However I do not have a table saw and am unsure if those types of saws can even get to exact angles (in this case 0.5 degrees). Any ideas?

Mark the 2x4 and cut it with a circular saw. If you aren't that good with the saw clamp a straight edge to the 2x4 for a guide.

I'm actually in the same boat, trying to level a 180 (6' x 2' x 2' with plastic rim) with a wooden stand. My problem is that it's going onto flooring that is 18" ceramic tiles over slab. I can't speak for the slab, but the tiles sure aren't level.

I'm thinking wood shims will be best to get the whole thing leveled to the height of the tallest parts of the tiles. Any other ideas? I don't have a table saw either.

No sorry I meant plane. Even a wood file. Trim the stand should be cheaper and easier then doing the floor.

If you live near a cabinet maker you could also ask them to do it for you.

I had a 125gal. 72" long, it was up for over six years with no problems. I cut a shim from a 2"x4" just as i posted about earlier. I placed a shim under the front and back of the tank under the plastic rim. The tanks built with the plastic rim like that rest only on that rim. I think this should work fine for both of you. It worked for me and I don't see why it shouldn't work for you.
