LF Chemi-pure Elite

Haven't seen any locally...bought mine online. Actually I have an unopened 6.5oz jar...it's yours if you want it but you are a bit far away. Most likely I will be at the ARC swap this weekend.

Just FYI,. Chemi pure is a mix of average grade granulated activated carbon and di resin. The resin is useless and harmless for use in salt water as it exhausts almost immediately. The elite adds a little gfo to the mix. Pricey for what you get in my opinion.

Good info Tom...I had a serious cyano issue in our 14g. Had GFO, Chaeto, carbon and CPE running in it. After someone suggested removing the CPE, after it had been in tank for a month plus, I have had no cyano. I def. believe it was leeching back into system.

Edit: Granted I changed my husbandry practices significantly so that maybe part of it but it was only a cpl days after removing the Chemi, so I don't feel it was coincidental.

What would you recommend? Carbon and gfo in a mesh bag? I don't want a reactor hanging off the back. I just like the fact that everything was self contained and would be good for a small system like mine, but I'm always up for suggestions.

Yes, for that set up. That is what CPE is essentially. If you can massaging the back gently every so often may break up any bacterial colonization on the surfaces and keep it functioning.

Media bags would be you next choice. I feed two TLF Rx'x hob'ing the mt from my sump each with their own pump one with gfo, the other a mix of gacs, and love the ease of use and results. I know you said you didn't want to hang a reactor(s), but I really like that app in my small space system. Purigen is thought to be a very good chemical filtration media too.

I really like the brc reactors but they are too big. I have been looking for mesh bags but can't find anything smaller than 4x8. Anyone know of a smaller bag?

Just came across this post. . .I've seen and purchased chemi-pure elite at Markheims and The Fish Place if you're familiar with the Buffalo area. I've always been a big fan of the stuff. They say to replace every 6 months, but i've read that rinsing it under cold water will recharge the carbon, giving it a longer life.
