Hello, I am a veterinarian reefer in South Orange County. I would counsel you to reconsider having your schnauzer's tail amputated. Here is a link from the American Veterinary Medical Association regarding tail docking and ear cropping.

https://www.avma.org/KB/Policies/Pages/Ear-Cropping-and-Tail-Docking-of-Dogs.aspx

Greater than 80% of all veterinarians in the U.S. are members of the AVMA, as I am. It is considered unethical to perform these procedures, and has not been taught in veterinary schools in the U.S. for over 30 years. The U.S. is one of a very small number of countries where the procedures are actually allowed to be legally performed, hopefully not for much longer.
It is purely a cosmetic procedure that has no medical recommendation.
I encourage you to discuss this procedure with your veterinarian prior to finding someone who will do this.
Please understand this is the same discussion I have frequently with many of my clients.

This is very informative. I own two standard poodles of different ages and different breeders. Both had their tails docked and both are of different lengths. This might explain why.

In the past, long long time ago when I did crop tails, never did ear crops, I would only do them in 1-3 day old puppies, never at 2-3 months. Much more involved surgery at that age. Of course have done many tail amputations for traumatic or medically indicated reasons.

My friend is a vet in LA, she says she'll do it for free if she can crop your pinkies. First knuckle only, totally humane nothing barbaric it's just a cosmetic thing.

Im not certain but I'm pretty sure your dog is far too old to be undergoing a tail crop procedure. That tail amputation must be done when the puppy's tails are soft and that requires a very young age. Something around under two weeks, just a heads up

Found a Vet who can do it.
Hes charging me $517 to do the surgery.
I wonder if that is a good price?
He said he would not do it after she is three months old though.

Seems pretty brutal to me! Glad I don't have a tail or a father that wanted to cut it off just for what, looks?

At more than a week old, I'm sure the nerve endings have already started growing into their respective limbs.

You're trying to do this at 2-3 months old? It's too late to do this.

Why not sell the dog for your money back and start over and do the crops early on? Or make sure the breeder includes the cropping in the price you pay for the dog.

Please don't do this to the current dog :(
