ahh chris so randy is buying frags of it to sell now huh interesting, well if anyone is interested in the golden eye i have lots of it for sale. and i will be taking a few frags with me to the garage sale as well i think

Always has. Most LFS's will give you credit for half of what they will sell whatever for.

haha so how many of you agree with this statement: "there was once a time, when we all went to an LFS, and were in awe by all the amazing colors in the coral tanks. the green fuffy brains were amazing, and the rainbow of zoanthids were nice. and everything in sight was under 65$. and at the time you thought that was outrageos. " ok now the real story:

2 years later:

"now how many of you look at those coral tanks in an lfs, and ignore everything except that awesome acanthastrea lordhowensis, or various chalice corals, or scolys? and now 300$ is the equivelent of what used to be that 65$ years ago?"

i must say, this is all influenced by RC. so #### that

Very true! Do you think it's just normal inflation though? I went to the movies last night and I got a coke, small popcorn and some sour patch kids. The total came to $75 just for the refreshments.

It's all supply and demand. We are all addicts.

Not me! I might be a minority but I don't like Acans, Chalices and all those other stuff. I walk right pass them whenever I see it in the LFS. I'm an acro and zoanthids man. I mean some of them are nice but they're definitely on the bottom of my wanted list. This is actually pretty good for me because there are more sps left over while everyone is drooling over the Acans.

I was the same way I have just about all the sps you would want but the bottom of my tank gotten empty so I been collecting chalices and acans and micros yumas and it really makes the tank pop

well some of those zoanthids are sooo expensive. and so are some montis. we can never win...

well guys. I'm no longer looking. I was lucky enough to get one this weekend!

heres a pic (not fully open yet)

It is prolly the brightest coral ive ever seen, and the new favorite in my tank (beats the hell out of acans).

do you think the small algea growth around it will affect its growth?

I'm so paranoid. i do not want to lose it. it would be as demoralizing as a tank cracking

thats a real nice fully healed and growing frag congrads ;) hopefully yours will grow faster than mine ;) also do you have any hermits?? if so they will make quick work of that algae around your frag however if you seem to find that your hermits arnt quite finding it or arnt eating as much algae as they should then i suggest going and buying a few new blue leg hermits as i notice when i put new snails and hermits in the tank they are usually starving and eat like crazy for the first few hours, so place the hermits or even new astreea right on the frag disc and they will go to town and take care of your little algae problem. Also dotn worry bout loosing it they are quite hardy and as long as something doesnt sting it to death you should be fine enjoy your new piece i love mine ;) really i love all my watermelon echinos or echinos in general for that matter

:wavehand:

have anymore frags Brian? I think I might want to try one again. I have the Red Tryee/snipersps watermelon (still small, very slow grower) but would like the pink to go with it.

I once had a 3 inch colony of the pink I grow out from Randy but fraged it last year and lost all 10 frags and what I had left with the colony. I later discovered I had a bad ground wire in my tank. Took it out and all my echinos finally started taking off.

Nickde123: I'd just get some tweezers and pick off the algae as it grows. The coral will soon grow over it so you won't have a problem anymore.

well hopefully by the time i go off to college (AUGUST) it will be about 3/4 inchs in diameter. although its a great sized frag, i some day want it to become a nice showpeice. I love the look of larger echinos.

anyway, i think ill just let it be for now. if the algea begins to really take over, ill remove it. but id rather just let the watermelon settle in.

I just want to say this: URS has totally changed my views on reefkeeping (for the better) and the people here have done nothing but help me along the way. so thanks!

I believe randy has some left I just got a nice sized frag from him.

Brent,
I will be fragging my colony again soon, probably in a week or two, and with your collection I'm sure we could work something out.

A grounding probe? How did you know it was bad? What made it bad?

yes, I would get a light shock when I put my hand in the water.
