LFS in Normal??

{clearing my throat and stepping up on the soapbox}

Forum sniping scares away new members and they may never discover what a great group / resource that CIMA is. Lets try to keep our public posts drama free.

{stepping down}

Sorry TCottle, gotta say one more thing. It chaps me when someone behaves in a holier-then-thou manner and scolds me for recommending Chicago's LFS over B/N's. I'm not even referring to any posts here on the public forum. Let me refresh you, Louis...

You e-mailed me at work on several occasions to convince me of Guy's incompetence during the building phase of my system. To me, that was the ultimate in trying to divert business from a local LFS. You even showed up at the store when we were leak testing the system and nit-picked every little aspect of what the team did. I invited you to come, but regretted it later.

So tell me now, how is it that me telling someone that the current LFS in B/N are not as good as the ones in Chicago, is somehow worse than your behavior behind the scenes when it comes to our local LFS? Drop the topic, because my opinion is my opinion and it won't change. I think that the stores in Chi-town are better than the ones here.

I am allowed to voice my opinion, just as you are.

(Stepping down now)

Everybody done now? Even the guy with a legit problem,
paid for items not recieved, isn't kicking up this much dust.

Let's remember the big loser in all this is probably Guy himself.
Anybody wanna guess how many thousands he probably went
out on a limb with?

Oh, and while Todd has a point, let's remember he also has an
ulterior motive. He needs new club members so he can keep
his tank mowed.

Thanks Lowell for outing my secret - Coral fragmentation as nutrient export ...

Went to Marine Aquatics today to get my PH tested and the store is small, but the guy was nice, older guy probally the owner. Not sure if he knows a lot cause i was in a hurry so i got the water tested and looked around and had to leave.

Just set up my 20gal flat back hex and it is looking pretty nice, i will get some pics soon, just moved in two days ago, so no internet yet. im at the library.

It's still a bit of an unknown, as the owner is not responding to any attempt to contact him. The power is off. The majority of the dry goods were gone as of Saturday. The City of Normal Code Inspector served notice that the store was not to be occupied again until all things were brought up to code. The sign simply says, "Closed." As for anything truly official, there is nothing. As for evidence, without Guy coming forward and setting the record straight, all things suggest that The Mad Reefer is no more.

I am personally hoping for the best, even if that is merely an e-mail, PM, or phone call that confirms the fact that the store is out of business. I likewise hope that I am the only person who got caught in their closing. Unless this is all just a huge misunderstanding, I'm out about $1600. So, yea, I'm rooting for this to be just a huge snafu.

Peace

Kevin

My 120 Oceanic Show tank was being modified by Guy. I hope I will be able to get my tank back. If anyone knows how to contact Guy or what recourse we have I would appreciate any information. As Kevin stated the phone voicemail is full and calls have not been returned. It is sad because it was a nice place to get advice and livestock.

I'd consider buying an RO/DI if you can swing it, last time I bought "good" water in town it tested pos for ammonia and nitrate. (Serveral years ago)

I need to get a TDS meter to follow up on how my RO membrane is holding up but other than that I am pleased with my Ebay RO/DI (6 stage 100gpd), it is not some SUPER fancy 3-400 dollar unit but has so far been getting the job done.

If you are looking for a good RO/DI check with Walter at Air Water & Ice. He also sells on Ebay under H20guru i believe. Also something to consider is the rejection rate of the RO membrane, 100 GPD is 90%, 75 GPD is 98%. Depending on the TDS of your water this can make a significant diference in the life of the DI resin.

Lego, check on Ebay for an inline TDS meter, I got mine from somebody out of springfield for like $30 shipped to my door. It is so much easier than the handheld Hanna. The push of a button and I know the TDS coming out of the membrane, and out of the DI.

Yeah I have my bros right now! It is really slow but def worth it because you know what your getting and when u want it. I love not having to drive to get water!!

So where you guys go to get fish and corals?? I think I may just have to get it back at home at Exotic Aquatics!!

Has anyone noticed their website is no longer in existance? I had racked up a bit of store credit by bringing stuff in.

torchstang05, welcome to ISU. Are you a biology major by any chance? I buy most of my livestock online and I acquire a lot of stuff via trading. I can give you frags of Anthelia, Xenia, a green plating Hydnophora, a brown/green Turbinaria, an orange-brown Montipora digitata, and Lobophytum if you are interested in any of those. I also have a few different types of macroalgae.

unfort no I am not, i am majoring in Bus with a specialty in Entre. (thinking of opening my own fish store with my buddy) and also a minor in Econ.

Well for right now I am just going to test my water at that store and then when ever I go home I will get stuff at Exotic Aquatics, in algonquin.

I will deff keep the frags in mind, I am not sure if I want corals or not yet. I am thinking of doing a big Carpet with my two maroon clowns that I am getting and then go from there. The weekend of the 9th I will be going home and coming back with some goodies. So again I wil keep your offer in mind.

check it out if ur on facebook http://ilstu.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2204802138

whats ur major?

Hey torchstang05,

I joined the group. I assume you are Barry? Let me know if you would like any of that stuff. I am a "super-senior" biology major.

Later,
Kevin

they have 2 websites. The .net one has been up for ever, it is not even checked by them after they got the .com Guy paid for service of the .net website for I think a year so it might be up for a while. However there is nobody there to watch it.
