LFS says buy Spectrapure RO/DI?

My LFS uses a Spectrapure RO/DI unit and swears buy it. Many postings here like AirWaterIce Typhoon III. AWI unit is $100 less than Spectrapure. My LFS says that many RO/DI Vendors are "just selling drinking water units," and don't do a good job with Silicates and the like.

On the other hand, while the baseline AWI unit filters at 75gpd, Spectrapure units start at 25gpd. Are AWI units less effecient at such higher filtration rates? Is my LFS just telling me what they want me to hear? Where is a newbie to go?

HELP!

Your LFS just wants your money.

This is the RO/DI I use. It works fine. When you buy it, ask them to substitute a Dow 75 GPD RO membrane (no charge) and you have the "better" RO membrane.

There are a few people that will tell you that the unit isn't worth the money. The filters don't compare to AWI's units. Even if it is true (which I really doubt), it costs $20ish to replace your filters. $20 every 9 months isn't that big of a deal, and the filters will last longer if you have a smaller tank.

The AWI 75gpd unit uses a 98% rejection rate RO membrane...the best you'll find. I personally think you would just be wasting money getting the Spectrapure. I'd recommend the Typhoon III without reservation.

That's a pretty good deal. airwaterice makes you buy an RO unit to get one of those.

Couldn't resist... :)
