LFS Tour?

Corner Reef and Gateway aquatics are located 10-15 minutes from each other depending on traffic. With Seascape Studio another 10 or so from Gateway. If you are coming from Central IL you will probably be driving down 55/255. A 10 minute detour east on 64 will take you to the LFS in Fairview Heights. Can't remember the name off the top of my head. From there 30 minutes tops to Corner Reef.

The store in Fairview Heights is Saltwater Paradise. It's worth a stop. I try to swing by there myself whenever I get a chance.
You also have Tropical World Pets about 15 to 20 minutes to the north of Gateway Aquatics. Their saltwater section is okay but not on the same level as the other 3 shops already mentioned. Might be worth it if you are headed in that direction anyway.
In the western suburbs of St Louis, there are quite a few good shops worth a look as well.

Coming down I55/70 stop at Aquatic Treasures in Collinsvile. Then continue south on 159 and hit Saltwater Paradise in Fairview Heights and then 10 minutes more to get to Kingdom Aquatics in Belleville. Then head down 255 to the Corner reef and then across the JB bridge to Gateway Aquatics. Then head west and hit the rest.

Corals and More has the best selection of the Acan/favia family IMO, large colorful colonies at reasonable prices. It's not far from the Cornor Reef, I find thier hard coral selection impressive, good prices on most items including the best dry goods/items selection IMO. But this is just out of the 5-6 stores I have traveled to.
Avoid the World Aquarium at all costs, you will be disgusted and want to slap someone.
I am working my way around the shops, I'm looking for a store with lots of macro algae, and a nice frag rack for sale that will fit my 40g breeder.

Or go to Lowes depot and buy a sheet of eggcrate

I've done eggcrate in the past. I always got some crazy purple and green bacteria/algae, plus This is the first true frag tank I have set up and its located next to my display so I'd like to make it look somewhat nice.
The plan is a frag rack and a nice bunch of different macro algae. I am hoping to grow some of the cooler macro's like dragons breath and that crazy blue one. Plus its something I can feed my new recused yellow eyed kole tang. he is a tiny little guy, i'll keep him till he gets about 5 inches and find him a new home.
This hobby is a blast,

I frequent Marine Solutions, value their opinion and think they're excellent at keeping new and different things in stock. I've been to 2 other stores near by also, but don't think they're quite on the same level. It could be that I was there during the summer months when the hobby slows down a bit, but I like a store that has things when I want 'em regardless of season. I would enjoy an outsiders perspective as well though.

I went to marine solutions a few months back. They had a nice selection, but I think I recall they were dealing with a pretty bad bubble algae out break. Was a good store though. I just have a fobea of bubble algae and never buy from tanks with it. I know it's in just about all retail tanks....but seeing it is my down fall. ��

I agree. No sense increasing your risk of an out break, I'm battling green hair algae now. :sad2:

I have hair algae, but I like to over feed. My fish are little fat marbles with gills. I don't mind some hair algae. Plus its the stage of my cycle
