Life expectancy of shrimp?

Can't speak to that, but I have 2 brine shrimp I got in an Ecoglobe back in 2000, and 6 years later, they're still tootling about their little kingdom.

That's amazing Sk8r lol... I hope they keep tootling for some time to come. I'll have to let my friend know about that. She's been trying to keep sea monkeys in her cube at work and she can't keep them alive very long =P

Winken and Blinken suffer amazing neglect. There was a Nod, but he demised early. The other two sit on a shelf while the room goes to 50 degrees at night, and still tootle, for sure: they have indirect sunlight, only ordinary room heating, and as I sit I can see one or the other swimming around.

That's sad, I have a fire shrimp that I've had for about two years - I guess he doesn't have long to go.

I have to ask - why did you freeze yours? Are you going to fake it's death later for the insurance?

He's so beautiful I wasn't ready to say good bye. He's frozen in a tile of very clear ice. Funeral services are set for this weekend.

Those aren't brine shrimp. Those are Halocaridina rubra. They're a species only found in little lava depressions on a few of the Hawai'ian islands. I know a guy working with them who has had them in sealed jars for over 10 years, and he has colleague who have had them for over 30 years. As shrimp go, they're pretty long lived.
