life span of polka dot cardinalfish

Does anyone know what the life span is of a polka dot cardinalfish? I've had mine for years and he's starting to look old, if that's possible in a fish.

Usually 3-5 years. I don't know about the aging thing but I think we all change with age

Mine was full grown when I bought him and I bought him over 4 years ago.

I have a pair of PJ cardinals(close to polka dot).I bought the as babies about 5 years ago.

Mine is seven years this April.

He was the first saltwater fish I ever bought.

He has been through two outbreaks of ich, one heater malfunction in the middle of the night and in the middle of winter, and one tank switchover from a 75gal to a 125gal. Still going strong, still thinks he is the boss of everybody even though no one takes him seriously.

Super old thread, but I have read a number of cases where PJs lived over a decade. Majestic Aquariums on YouTube has videos of a PJ living for 15 years.


Strange how Bangaiis don’t seem to last nearly as long.
