Lifespan of Longspine Cardinalfish?

I purchased a dozen longspine cardinalfish from petsolutions about 3 years ago. They arrived as adults, and have done well in my tank in the past 3 years. However, in recent months, their numbers are dropping rather rapidly.

The first year, I lost 2. The second year, I didn't lose any. I maintained 10 in my tank up until about 4 months ago, when they suddenly stopped breeding. I've been losing about one a month since then, and am now down to 6.

Since I first received them as large adults, I figure they were at least a year old when I received them. That would make them 4+ years old now. http://www.theaquariumwiki.com/Zoramia_leptacantha says that the life expectancy of these fish are 2-3 years.

Are they dying off just because they're just getting old? Or could it be that there's just some funk going on with my tank?

Has anyone kept them in their tanks for over 3 years?

That's very normal for this species as far as I know, in fact 4+ years is pretty impressive. Good luck with the ones you've still got though

Lol

I am sure the cardinals will be fine[emoji106]

Thanks! That's comforting to know.

Actually, I would replace them with a different type of cardinalfish. Maybe yellowstriped?

The yellow striped normally pair off and then kill off the others IME. They're still a cool species though, I just wouldn't aim for a group of 'em
