Light loan?

Does anybody have a nano light they can loan me until I can get my 24G lights fixed or retrofitted? It seems I have had total ballast failure and it may take a couple of weeks to get this resolved.

I have the hood from my Red Sea Max that I'm not using. It might be a bit large but I'm sure you could make it work if you like.

Scott,

I'm not sure if you could use this, but I have some lights sitting here (not being used) that someone just gave to me- It is a power compact "SmartLite 32 watt Retrofit Kit" by Custom SeaLife with bulbs, ballasts, reflectors.. Says on the box "Ideal for Eclipse 2 & standard fluorescent hoods w/ minimum dimensions 15" long x 4" wide x 2.5" high."

I could send you a picture if you want.... Again, I'm not sure if you could use it, but if so I'd be more than happy to give it to you. It's brand new in the box.

I managed to get one light going -- the other PC bulb is fried, though. The Red Sea Max is a little largish - not sure how I'd support that. But thanks for the offer -- I might take you up on that if I do not find another option soon.

I might be able to use that as a temporary gap to repair the bulb that was fried. It has the right dimensions. Send me a pic and I'll let you know if I can use it. Thanks for the offer.

Thanks, Sean. That light looks like it will carry me over fairly well. I am set to mount it tonight (after cleaning the dead fans, LED nightlights, and temp control board out of the hood).

I just ordered a dozen 3W Cree LEDs and driver and fans and miscellaneous parts to make the first step towards building my LED fixture. I figure a dozen will work (and not 24 or more like I've seen on some 24G nanos) because I have a lot of rock and most of my corals are 6" to 10" below the water surface. I'll post an update as I slowly work my way through this build. I say "slowly" because I am officially out of hobby money for the next 3 weeks.

P.S. Anybody know a good place to buy aluminum heat sinks locally? I need ~8" wide by 12" long with around 1" fins on the back. I can mail order one, but that would cost me about $35 -- looking for something a little more economical here. My backup plan is to buy aluminum channels at Home Depot and bolt them together (cost: $12).

I added one of the bulbs to my hood tonight. The neatness of the installation leaves something to be desired, but the light is sufficient to keep things going until my LED parts arrive. Thanks again, Sean.
