Light upgrade overkill?

Hey guys,

So, on my SPS dominant display, I have a 6x80w ATI. I have the opportunity to upgrade to a 3x 400w (radium) Giesemann halide fixture with 4x 80w T5 supplementation.

The tank measures 6ft x 2ft x 1.5ft, the vast majority of the Acropora sit in the middle of the tank.

Will this lighting be way over kill and possibly fry the Acropora?

Thanks guys

honestly I don't think so, I used to run 400's over my 75 gal and everything grew great, I did change out to 250's only to save energy.

I don't see the upgrade to be worth it in terms of how the corals will be affected. They won't be any healthier or grow any faster. It's more about what you want and the look in the tank. MH will create shimmer if that's important to you. Oh, and they will create heat. Here in SW Florida I didn't need the heat in the house and the cost of the chiller to keep the water cool enough was an expense you may need to consider as well.
