lighting for 29bio cube

i have a 29g bio cube thats been up and running for about 2 and a half months. yesterday i saw an upgrade on nanotuners.com that doubles the lighting in the 29g. what does everyone think about this upgrade? id like to hear from people who have the 29 bio cube and what they are able to grow. also, the filter that comes with the bio cube lasts about a week before it is so clogged its useless, the nanos they have at the LFS run without a filter and without the bio balls but with live rock rubble in the middle chamber. as i'm very new to the hobby what do some of the more experienced people think.
post some pics of other 29g bios so i can see what is potential.

Hunter,
My 29-gallon biocube has been up and running for about three months now completely stock. I have two frags of montipora in the upper most portion of the tank that are doing excellent. I dont really see a need to upgrade the lighting in the tank unless you plan on keeping some of the more hard-to-keep sps.

As for the filter in the first chamber of the biocube, I have to wash mine almost everyday or it becomes extremely clogged up and makes the water overfow from the display area into the back chambers. No real fix for it - other than to replace it will filter floss or just keep cleaning it. Heres an early pic. of my tank when it was about 1.5 months old.

I'm only keeping your standard zoos, rics, discos and softies.

As for that POS stock filter, do yourself a favor and:

1) Take old nasty stock cartridge.
2) Yank filter floss off of front.
3) Fling all contents in the trash.
4) Dremel/cut inner ribs out of cartridge frame.
5) Purchase poly filter material or grab a section of Pura Pad and cut to fit.

They don't clog anywhere near as often. When you are ready to change, toss the old media, replace with a freshly cut piece.

If you really want to get slick, you can glue two frames back to back to run a two stage filter.

IMO, it's one of the best easy DIY mod for the BC29.

Let me know if you want me to post up some pics.

I've gotta agree. The stock filter is junk.

I'm running without any right now. Put the Sapphire skiimer in a couple of weeks ago. So far so good, but I'll probably have to put a filter pad back in at some point.

I have LR in 2nd chamber with fiber. I have also done the 4.36 lighting upgrade, and wow what a difference. Alot of the zoas that I were kind of drab now have bright lime rings and the mushrooms that I had were turning kind of burgundy, they are now turning back red. I'll try to post pics.
