Lighting for a Giant... Gigas

Hello Everyone,

Currently debating buying a 10 inch gigas clam from my local LFS for $129.99 (good price?)... my question has to deal with lighting. I have a 65 gallon tank with duel 150watt Hqi on each side of the center brace of this 24inch tall tank. Will 150 be sufficient in order to make him happy and have him thrive about 25 ish inches away from the light? Just looking for opinoins. Also what is the best way to check for health on gigas... i know they are unable to close their shells due to their large size but what response time should i look and other physical appearences? I have had experience but croceas...but this would be my first gigas. Thanks in advance

I am sorry to say, but your tank is already too small for that big of a clam that will only get bigger. The lighting will be fine, but you will need a calcium reactor to keep that clam happy.

Agreed....I knew a clam freak with a 265g that refused to get a gigas even though he wanted one! (From multiple accounts I've heard moving a large gigas is very risky)
