Lighting for a mantis

ill probly end up getting a 10g tank, some sort of mantis (anything but a peacock beucase they get big) and a hang on back filter for a 20g tank

do they need lighting? his tank will probly be in the living room where normal household lights are on, will this be enough for him?

No, not unless your filtration system requires it. Some stoamtopods are more tolerant of bright light than others, but generally ambient room lighting is more than adequate. In fact, many species do not do well in bright light. It the species occurs in the intertidal and in clear water, it can stand all the light you want to use. If it occurs at depth (greater than 10 m) and/or in murky water, kill the lights.

k. i dont think anything in the tank would require lights.. its just gonna be some base rock, nothing live..

and this would also make it alot harder for my tank to get dirty with algae right?

Dr Roy, I have my mantis Tanks as follows, are these acceptable lighting conditions?

G. Tern 13w 50/50 (white/blue?)
O. Scyllarus 13 w 50/50

G Platy 6 w blue
G Viridis 6 w blue

G Chriaga 6 w white (well, the standard that an eclipse comes with)

N Wenn 6 w blue.
His is in a clip on, and not directly over him.

Thanks, Ron

All of the species except O. s. live shallow, so they can tolerate bright, broad spectrum lighting. There is no need to have blue on them.

O. scyllarus lives a bit deeper, so dimmer, bluer lighting is called for.

Well, I have some corals in the platy, tern and Viridis' tanks. Just some mushrooms and Zoanthids. They seems to do well/better with the blue lighting. I assume that the blue isn't detrimental, at least?

Thanks, again.
