Lighting for Clam?

I moved a Deresa clam from a 50g tank with dual 150w MH to a 75g tank with dual 250w MH. I noticed it is little with drawn (mantle not fully extended). I assume that it is a result of the increased lighting and the clam will adjust with time but there is also a yellow and a hippo tang in the tank. I haven't noticed any nipping but they could be.

Any thoughts?

I would agree with your thoughts. The clam is either adjusting to the stronger lighting or doesn't need to extend it's mantle as much because of the stronger lighting.

Should lower your photo period down till the clams get adjusted to the new light. I would slowly raise the lighting time over a period weeks. IMO

Thanks Barry N. Is there a particular schedule you recommend. The lights are on about 9 - 10 hours daily.

I would go back to 5 hours a day and raise one hour per week. Another way is to place a filter over the top of the tank over the clam such as those acrylic lids that come up some tank. Place lid in salt water and let it dry and it will be frosted and makes a good filter when acclimating new livestock to your lighting. IMO & IME.

Hope this helps.
