Lighting for Red Sea Reefer 250

Hello!
I am thinking of upgrading to a Red Sea Reefer 250 and I am puzzled regarding lighting. I am aiming to a mixed LPS/SPS tank (more SPS) - tank dimensions approximately 90x50x50. I am thinking of either 2 x Hydra 52 HD LED Lights or a Pacific Sun Hyperion S. What's your opinion?
Many thanks in advance.

If you're considering 2 Hydra 52HDs, then I would suggest 3 Hydra 26HDs with the pucks of each fixture oriented from front to back. This will help reduce shadowing in 3 dimensions as opposed to 2 dimensions if you went with 2 Hydra 52HDs.

I would suggest two Hydra 26HD's.

They're more powerful than half of a Hydra 52.

Also, I've previously ran two Hydra 26HD's over my SPS Dominant 36x18x19, which is very similar to the Reefer 250. With great success I might add. Though I did add a third which was crazy coverage. Only picked up the third since I found one for a super good deal lol.

Buy two Hydra 26HD's and then add the third when needed!

And when you do, PM me. I'll send over a killer profile a few of us on here are using with outstanding success. It's a mock Ecotech Marine SPS AB+ Profile. I'm having some pretty impressive color and growth.

Ok then. If you say that you have had success with SPS while using hydra 26hd, I will go for 3 of those. Have use placed then vertically or horizontally? Are you using the slimeline desinger mounting systems for those lights? The one for 50cm width? Looking forward to this killer profile you mentioned ;) many thanks

I have never heard of the Slimeline.. However I just googled them... WOW! Those are nice!
I'm actually currently using the Hydra Mounting System, their new one, on my one Hydra 26HD over my Reefer 170. Yes, I went BACK to Hydra 26HD after downgrading from my ATI 6x39 SunPower :P.

I had mine placed horizontally, however I could've angled them anyway. They sat on a wood-platform in my canopy.

Here are some reference pictures to the profile I'm currently using.

Hey Hentz!
Tried to send you a PM but I can't. So I posted it on your profile conversations...

If you are leaning towards keeping more SPS, I'd also recommend the 3 Hydra 26hd mounted front to back. You'll reduce shadowing for the SPS when they grow into large colonies.

Alternatively, if you're not married to either of the options you mentioned, check out the new ghl mitras LX7. Initial reviews are popping up and they are really good. They have six pucks per fixture with large spread. I'm still researching to see how well they eliminate shadowing, but logic says they'll be very good.

I did a lot of research on this. If you are doing mixed LPS/ SPS Id go with two 26 hd's or 2 XR15's. If you are doing acros and higher light SPS, Id go with two 52s or 2 xr30w. if you want to go the T5 method, a 6 bulb 36" would be good. If you want to go cheap (which you will regret) you can do the Orbit Marine Pro dual 36". Ive seen up to 3x 52s on this tank, which is pretty much overkill but if you are looking to keep SPS from top to bottom you might have to. Good luck!
