Chris - Where's the updates? The tank was looking nice ... but where's all the rock? I said not to add too much with the 1.5 to 2.0 pounds per gallon recommendation (just kidding!) But you do now make my tank look over rocked still. I plan on taking out a few more pieces and adding them to the fuge.

I finally had a purchase a Durso for the EXTREME noise. It went in on Saturday and has helped a lot.

Here is a pic of my basement set-up:

Keep the pic's coming!

I'll be getting another 20 lbs. or so for the front center of the tank, to give it a more sloped look.

Now you are talking with that rock!!! I thought you were done with just 40lbs ... it was looking a bit bare. Looks great! Did you just stack it or did you secure it together with something? How much space do you have between the glass and the rock? Can you tell I am still not satisfied with mine?

Sara

Naw. 40 lbs. was all I could afford at the time. Plus I just wanted to get something in there and start the cycle.

I started out by stacking/wedging the rock into place, then I went around where each piece touched and wedged epoxy putty into place so, hopefully, nothing can shift.

I left about two inches between the front of the glass and the rock. It's just enough to get a cleaning magnet in between. Along the sides, the rock is right up against the glass (with epoxy to give it a softer foot). I was a little concerned about water flow between the glass and the rock, but I think I have enough space and crevices to allow for that.

What don't you like about your rock?

I have mostly softball rounded fiji and tonga branches ... wait until you start to find places to attach corals! Its hard to attach things to curved surfaces. I am pulling some rounds out and replacing with flatter rock.

very nicely done. can't wait to see the end result with those 40lbs, not to mention whatever corals you'll add. Did u get that rock at your lfs, or online somewhere? i don't remember if u mentioned what kind of lights you have (and i admit i am to lazy to look for it) but what kind do u have... cause i am about to buy some lights online for my 92 corner and i'd like it bright like yours. keep up the good work!

Putman201 - Don't be too lazy, there are actually 3 different tanks pictured on this site. Pick which one you are inquiring about and they will get back to you.

Sara

not only am i lazy, i'm retarded too. I meant to say in my previous post, that i can't wait to see how the 20 lbs u add looks in the end. in my defense of my laziness, i just worked from 5am, until 3:30pm, on 2 hours of sleep... so perhaps i am just more tired, then lazy... anyways, i am curious as to what kind of lighting all of you have over your corner tanks. I have 3 65 watt pcs, and 1 175 watt mh... lookin to upgrade, with more light (250 watt mh) but perhaps less heat (replace pc's with t5's?) any suggestions?

putman201 - go back to page #1 of this thread to see 1 hanging light over a current system, and then mine that has the 4-65W 50/50 Actinic's and one 250 MH in a retro'd canopy. Also Chris, who started this thread, has the drawing of his lighting plan as well as showing them sitting on top of the tank prior to hanging. On page #2 you will see Chris's lights hung with the 40 lbs of rock and then when he added up to 160 lbs and is waiting on the extra 20lbs.

Hope that helps ...

i get the feeling you don't like me very much sarah... what i meant is that I don't have the room for a chiller. simple as that. right now, my water temp is topping out at 80, 81 on occasion. I'd like it to stay at that temp, but get more light si i figured retro t5's and a se 250 watt mh. I dunno what kind of wattage to replace the 65 watt pcs though so i am asking for a reccomendation. I found a 25watt mh, with 10k xm bulb, magnetic ballast, and reflector... all plug and play for i believe 140 shipped. seem like a good deal to anyone here? I was even thinking that i could use the 10k 250 watt, and use a 20k on the 175... my only worry is heat, and if that would just turn my tank into a boiling fishbowl... which would then necessiate getting a chiller, but i don't have space for one, but i have fans in my canopy up the wazoo. ***? my green anthias just ate a blue reef chromis... anyways, guess whatever i end up doing will put me even further back from getting a digital camera i could post pics with... oh and i apologize for my lack of effort tracking whose tank had what lights and what rock in it and what was on the way and etc... I hope everyones tanks turn into the reefs they want them to be, because 2 jewel damsels that i have are starting to pick at corals... and i now have to tear everything apart to get them out. and i was just starting to like how the rocks are set up :mad2:

You are funny on the not liking you comment ... where did you get that from?

With my set-up I did have a problem with the heat. I topped out at 84 degree's so I had to remove the cover on my canopy permantley and then I added a small fan the blew over my sump. That helped with 1-2 degree's, but 82-83 degrees was still a bit warm. That is part of the reason why I moved to the basement in addition to the space constraints under that tank. I also plan on moving to longer length VHO's in January and will move from a 6,500 MH to a 10,000 MH to get less yellow light.

ChrisBruno - How is the heat factor in your tank with the hanging lights? Can you please respond.

ahhhh... if only it were so easy to move my tank into a basement... but here in fl... yeah... high water table blah blah blah... I have 6 computer fans on my tank as of right now... i think i'll just keep my 175 mh, and swap my power compacts for t5's... can anyone here comment on how well they cut down on heat vs light output? like what would a 65 watt pc be equivalent to in t5's?... on a different matter all together.. does anyone here know by any chance if there is going to be a starphire 92 corner?... or does anyone know of a company that makes corner bowfronts without that green tint to the glass? i'd go acrylic but it scratches wwaaayyy to easily, and if u get deep scratches, they are almost never comming out.

Hey! I'm glad this thread is getting more activity.

I got the first 40 lbs. of LR at my LFS (Florida LR), the next (and most recent addition) from LiveAquaria.com (90 lbs. of large Figi and 30 lbs. of Lalo), and the remaining ~20 lbs. will come from my LFS.

My lighting is a bit on the weak side, but I was (and still am) very afraid of generating too much heat. I've got a 36" hood with 4 x T5s and another 24" hood with 4 x T5s (4 actinic and 4 daylight total). That's 252 Watts for 92 gallons.

On that train of thought, I have resigned myself to needing a chiller before next Spring. I'll end up drilling another hole down into my basement because I'm out of space in my cabinet. After I get the chiller, I'll think about upgrading some of the lighting.

Another contribution to my heat problem is my two Mag 9.5 pumps (water-cooled).

When the air temp is above 75 degrees, my tank tends to run at 83 - 85 degrees.

Chris ... the basement project will just beginning with the Chiller! You have a few months to work on the wife to get it all down there and skip the chiller! Good luck.
