Lighting For Sale - BRAND NEW

Gonna Need A Bigger Tank
Here's the quick story - got in over my head w/ lighting. I'm setting up a new 120 gal and wanted to try T5 lighting. Instead of buying a kit already put together, I bought the parts and now I'm stumped. Here's what I'm proposing:
1. FOR SALE - The following is BRAND NEW (still in box):
a. 4 IceCap T5 standoffs
b. 2 T5 IceCap ballasts
c. 4 46" IceCap T5 reflectors
d. 4 IceCap T5 endcaps
I can't seem to get an RMA# to send them back to Aquarium Specialty so I'd like to sell them for what I paid - I'm not even charging the shipping I paid
PRICE - $212.00 (I can even show you the invoice).

OR

2. If someone could actually come over and walk a newbie through this process, I'd be grateful (and provide beverage of choice). That way I'd learn something AND get to use what I bought without the hassle of re-ordering something. I live in Lakeland, not far from the Polk Parkway (which connects directly to I-4).

Thanks,
Daryl

Didnt the ICE Cap ballasts come with the wiring schematics on the ballasts and in the box? if not try there website.

Wiring it up is very easy. The icecap wiring diagram shows you exactly how to do it. If it wasnt an hour drive for me id gladly come give you a hand.

I understand about the drive...I fish over your way quite a bit...it's not just the wiring, it's the whole work it into the canopy thing as well.
thanks though,
daryl

The way i did mine was i put the standoffs on the endcaps, put the bulbs in and put them in the canopy while it was on the ground to get an idea of placement. I then took the bulbs out and connected the wires. With the wires all hooked up you can then put the bulbs back in and test fire it to make sure everything is functioning. After i made sure it all worked i then left the bulbs in and put them in place and screwed them to the canopy. If you screw the endcaps done with the bulbs in and the endcaps cap screwed on you can easily mount them at the correct distance.

thanks...and let me know if you head over to Disney anytime soon :)
I'm right on the way.

Will do. If you would like i can take some picyures of mine. I have 4-54w t5s on an icecap 660. I have 2 54w t5s on a different brand ballast. But maybe it will help a little. And i would be more than happy to give you my number and try to help you thru it over the phone too. Id hate to see you hve to sell them and spend twice as much on a fixture.

Pics would be great...I even contacted the dealer, but they had no real step-by-steps instructions posted (or printed for that matter).
If you'd PM your phone #, I'd appreciate it.

Not a problem. I can probably get some pics taken in the morning before the lights come on. Ill pm you my number now.

I wish I new myself how to do this, that alone is worth the trip.

If I can get some help, you're always welcome to come learn, imbibe, learn, imbibe...you get the picture :)

Here a some pics of my lighting. I hope they help.

If you want any other pics let me know. I can probably disassemble 1 of the endcaps and show you exactly how the wires connect.

Yeah, I am concerned about the wiring in the endcap as I've not seen any diagrams of that phase of the wiring.
thanks for taking the time to do this.

I will do that for you in the tomorrow. The wire connections are super easy, They just slide in thru the standoff and the bottom of the endcap. They are just slid into the connectors and are pinched in. I will get a couple pics of 1 with a single set of wires run to it and 1 with 2 sets of wires in it. The 1 with 2 sets is because you need to jumper to another bulb. Your wiring diagram should show that.

The only wiring diagram I have is on the ballast....is that the diagram to which you're referring?

On the Aquarium Specialty website they say these are distributed by IceCap
see link:
ballast

It doesn't look like any ballast I can find on IceCap's website...maybe that's why I can't seem to find a wiring diagram???

If this isn't "up to snuff," what ballast would anyone recommend for a 4-lamp T5 set-up???

Yes you want to follow the wiring diagram on the ballast. I dont know if icecap ditributes those ballast but the are different than all icecap ballasts i have seen. I have my actinics run on a ballast like that made by Advance.
Here are the pics of the extra ballast i have that i will be using for my other actinics.

Is this how the connections are on yours?
ballast2.jpg

Best pic i could get real quick of the diagram mine has. Basically the center 2 wires on the ballst connect to both bulbs and the outerleft 2 go to 1 bulb and the outter right 2 go to the other bulb.

Mine doesn't look exactly like that...I'll try and unpack them (remember, I was trying to return them :) ....and take a photo by tomorrow...

That would greatly help. As long as i know how the connections are made on the ballast and the wiring diagram for it i can walk you through the whole process.
