lighting for sps tank

A good 8 bulb combo would be:
for 15k:
ATI blue plus x 4
GE 6.5k
10k midday x 2
12k ATI aquablue special

for 18k:
ATI blue plus x 4
ATI aquablue special x 2
KZ new gen 14k x 2

Here are my suggestions and what fixture are you looking at that's $2000? I've neve even heard of a T5 fixture over $1000.

FWIW, I really like ATI bulbs. I run 4 ATI Blue Plus, 1 ATI AquaBlue, & 1 KZ Fiji Purple, gives me a 18,000-20,000K lighting with plenty of PAR.

I'm going to run that bulb combo on my new 75 in a 54 watt 6 bulb ATI sunpower. I really like the 18-20k look and I've heard that combo has great PAR like you mentioned. What fixture do you have that bulb combo in and on what sized tank? Also do you keep sps and to what extent?

If I was only going to do it once I would go with the following:

- 2 large lumanarc reflectors
- 2 x 400W electonic ballasts
- 2 x 400W Radiums
- 4 x 110W VHO actincs (2 bulbs ber ballast) on separate timers

I think the 10 bulb power module would be the perfect choice. They are phenomenal and will provide more than enough par.

I'm thinking that i might have to go with a 8 bulb fixture due to expences but i'm pretty sure an 8 bulb fixture will be fine

Yes but it is great to hear every bodies opinion. I was told that you had to have MH fixture for sps but on this thread i have learned that is not true! I am glad for all the feedback from every body. The more the marrier!

I didn't really try to sound like I'm siding with any particular lighting scheme. I just wanted to show that T5s work on deeper tanks. Meh, take your pick--they both work well.

Do i need to have a calcium reactor in a reef tank? If so what is a good calcium reacter to go with?

I would suggest you start a new thread for any additional topics you want to cover.

Regardless, IMHO that is not a purchase you should concern yourself with now.
