Lighting help

Zef, what kind of corals are you keeping under your LEDS? This sounds like the way Im leaning, mostly because of the low power consumption, and the frequency of changing the bulbs, I think if the LEDS work well, they definitely pay for themselves pretty quickly.

Only had them for a week now. But everything looks good. I zoas lps and sps. I had some brown out sPs that I see color coming back. :)
I know someone that lives down the street had them on there tank for 10 months and his monti caps was growing downwards.

Hey Zef, do you have any pictures? I need new bulbs for my MH setup and am seriously considering something more energy efficient. I also think the 2 400W may be a little overkill.

Yeah 400 would be a way overkill. I don't have Internet at right now. Wait on comcast fix my lines. But I can send a pic with my phone. Pm with your email or #.
And can give you more info about mine and reefkois.

Yeah, when I got them the craze was the more lighting the better. Actually my corals did better when I had 250W MHs I think. I eventually raised my 400W lights up so high it kinda defeats the purpose of more wattage anyway. I will send you my e-mail.

yeah, im with you bill, everything sounds good about them from a financial and energy conservation standpoint, but the biggest seller for me is peoples experience. I still dont know which way im gonna go, Im leaning LED but i still want to do more research.

So how is the wattage being calculated on these fixtures? I was looking at the picture for the 120w fixture and there were 119 leds on the panel (7X17). at 3w a piece, that equals over 500w.

ugh, nevermind, we have been talking about the Cree LEDS at 3w and I assumed thats what these had on it, but they are 1w LEDS ( i need to read the fine print). Anyway, with that being said, if Im going to go LED's I should probably go 3w LEDs right?

Thanks

My 3w Cree LEDs are about $200 more the reefkois. Each 3w are driven at 1.26w x 119 = 149.94wats so I say 150wats of power.
24" tall tank and fixture is 10" above the waterline and my par is 260-300par at the sandbed.

That would mean its not running at full power. So your saying that they are 3w bulbs and that they are being run at half potential?

Yup to last longer. They say mine will last 6-10yrs 75000hrs+

Also with these fixture you got to watch who you get themfrom. There's 8-10 manufacturers in China that makes these for companies over here. Some are good and some are just pita to deal with no Quality control.

Yeah I would agree, im just trying to research this so I can make the best choice. Im very interested if you don't mind to seeing your setup.

Your more welcome to come by and check them out. Sundays are the best for me being my only day off. I'll also send those pic tonight.
