lighting hight

rogergolf66

im an addict lol
I was wondering right now I use the orbit lighting system it has feet that sit on the tank. They are about 4 inches high. The system also has a mounting system with wires I can hang up.

Well my question is this. How much light will I loose if I was to hang the lights say 1 1/2 feet above the tank? I mean as far as visual that I see and also for the corals how much light will they loose. I know if you put corals lower in the tank they get less light because the water absorbes some of the light well. I think my question is clear I hope. I want easier acsess to the tank and now I have to lift the lights out of the way.

So what do you think and how high can I go with min. loss if any?

Thank You

Roger

light output decreases pretty fast with distance. Ive heard 10" is a good distance though, a foot would seem doable, 1.5' might be a bit much.

I saw some things that worked like a window shade, to raise and lower the light easily.

I dont often need much room, just enough to get my arm in. good news for me since I dont work out. big guns could be a real problem.

but if your just hanging them, something as simple as hanging by achain, and looping it up on a c-hook to get it out of the way could be a very simple solution.
