LIGHTING IN THE NEW 90...selling one for another...????

Dang it.....The fixture that I bought will not fit in my canopy. It is a pretty nice fixture but I will have to sell it and think up a new configuration. The fixture I got was the Odyssea 48" with two 250watt Mh's 20k's and two 96 watt PC's with 6 moonlights built in. I paid $329 off of ebay. I plugged it in and everything seems to work fine. Anyone interested?

Second I have been reading up on T5's and I am considering it. the canopy would fit them well. Anyone running them already and what kind of configuration would I need for a 90 gallon?

Thanks,
Robert

Not too many people are running T5's as of yet, but their popularity is increasing all the time. As far as configuration goes, it really depends on what sort of color you want.

You said that your kit from ebay had MHs in it, so I would assume that you are wanting to keep some light loving corals. Although it has been done, keeping SPS corals under T5's isn't recommended. The exception would be if your lights were close to the water, and the SPS were close to the surface.

If I had a 90g tank, I'd most likely light it with a couple of MH's and a pair of Actinic VHO's....and I'd retro everything instead of buying a preassembled kit....but that's just me.

I live near Antioch so if you needed some help wiring stuff up, I could give you a hand.

I would love the help. The problem I am having with the lighting is what to get for the canopy I bought. The canopy is open on the top so not much to mount to in there. If you get a chance come by and check it out. PH# 403-5626

I think that is more a religious war than actual fact. T5s can do fine with SPS at any depth. T5s can actually provide more PAR at the sand bed than MH's. What you said I think is true of PCs, but not T5s.

Kalied, Is this canopy wood? I know you mentioned it is open top. what you could do is make a few little cross braces to use to mount any sort of retro kit to the inside. I am guesing your tank is a standard 90 meaning it is 48" across (same as my 75). I made my own canopy, but you can easily retro yours to accept jsut about any sort of retro kit. I dont havce experience with t5 lighting, and therefore cannot speak to it, but I use vho on my tnak and have seen good reaction form my sps. If you go either the t5 route or the vho route, look to getting a 46.5" retro kit. it will fit perfectly inside a tight canopy over a 48" tank. you can go with a 2 bulb vho kit and then get 2 seperate MH retro's, and that could work.

Yes it is wood. Looking at it now, I think it will be easy to put in a cross brace. It is the standard 90 48'' long. Thanks for you input. If I go will that I will definitely keep you in mind for HELP.

Robert, Just let me know of you need a hand outfitting it. I live between smyrna and the boro so I am fairly close. if you need a close look at how I setup my vho, you are welcome to come look. you can basically do what I did except with the open top.

Yes, they are 250 watt. Yea it looks just like that one.

Thanks for the offer greystreet. I will let you know when I get the retrofit lights. I will definitely need the help.

I have a six bulb t5 unit with cooling fan filled with geissemans if you would be interested in a trade. I would have to see the unit though, as would you i'm sure. Let me know. It's not a retro, but a full unit.

Are you still interested in trading? Let me know. I am going to be setting everything up soon and need to have the lighting done.

Thanks
Robert
