You know with it being so close to April 1st, I'm wondering if this is an April's fool joke! Anyone ever hear of this fish?

Its very possible these fish can be breed.I have spoken with some very creditable breeders and they say they are getting color morphs and dif patterns now.

Not an April fools joke, my daughter took the picture. This is the second one found with similar coloration. I will try to post a few more pics.

More info on the sale from RB:
The Lightning Maroon Clownfish from Papua New Guinea is the newest feather in the cap of the Seasmart Program and thanks to decisions being made at Blue Zoo Aquatics, the lightning maroon clownfish may eventually become a shining example of sustainability and ethics in the marine aquarium trade. In an unprecedented turn of events, Blue Zoo Aquatics has rebuffed the countless stratospheric offers for the lightning maroon clownfish, opting instead to select a buyer that is an accomplished fishbreeder in the United States who can give this fish the undivided attention it will need to establish a productive breeding program.

The fish went to the award winning marine fish breeder Matt Pedersen. For those of you who do not know, Pedersen is a well-known breeder who garnered significant and well-deserved attention in the hobby for pioneering the breeding of harlequin filefish! We will hopefully see some of these guys soon scence its in this guys hands!

Hey Guys, Ret Talbot here, and I took the picture at the start of this thread. Not a great picture--it's funny this is the one that has circulated the most...lol. At any rate, I'm a writer and photographer who was in Papua New Guinea when this fish was collected, and I have been following it very closely along the chain of custody to Matt's tank. I was in PNG researching a story on the SEASMART Program.

A couple things that might interest folks are that this is the second PNG lightning maroon clownfish to be collected from the same fishery management area (FMA) and the fisher was actually quite well compensated for the collection. The first PNG lightning maroon clownfish was collected back in 2008. Several other interesting variants have been seen on the same reef sparking lots of discussion about whether it is genetic or environmental. Do make sure to follow Matt's blog about his efforts to breed this fish here:

For more background on the fish and how it made it to Matt, check out Blue Zoo Aquatics lengthy article here:

http://www.bluezooaquatics.com/resources.asp?show=416

There is a shorter article with a few more pictures on the SEASMART site here:

http://www.seasmart.ecoez.com/spotlight.html

Finally, if you want to learn more about PNG or SEASMART, you can look for an article in the May/June issue of CORAL Magazine and/or check out my blog:

...oh, and here's a parting shot I snapped in the SEASMART export facility in Port Moresby, PNG. Enjoy!
