Lighting Over A Fuge

I've been using 5K compact fluorescent flood lights. I'd like to see is anyone has had luck with one of the low wattage LED grow lights. I'd read an article that recommended these LED grow lights for orchids for refugiums. I don't know anyone that's tried them yet.

I would use whatever you have on hand.Anything will grow macro algea if its left on 24/7.... I have 96 watt pc 50/50 bulb on mine but the new par 30 or par 38's would work.I have seen a heat lamp used or those energy saving flourescent bulbs...:reading:

Chaatomorpha and other macroalgaes respond to increased lighting with increased growth. They also need some space to grow. I prefer to incldue a period of darkness as in nature. Having said that two spiral flourescent (18w/equivalent 65w) bulbs from Home Depot have served me well over the years.
Been considering that too for supplemental lighting here and there in the system. Can't find any at home depot or lowes with a color temp higher than 3000k though. Seems they are made to mimic "warm" incandescent. The spirals ,I use have a 6500 k rating

The grow lights from the orchid place that i referenced in the link above are probably better suited than the home depot par38's that are meant to replace indoor lighting. They are also about $20 cheaper.
Though... I still calculated a 2 year payback from electrical savings, so I'd be more interested in them if I knew that macros would grow more quickly.
They don't actually state what spectrum the bulbs are, and only describe them as "wide spectrum". I think that I'm going to email them when I get home to see if I can get more detail and a recommendation. I'd be really happy if I could replace he 2 fluorescent bulbs over my fuge with 1 LED bulb.
