lighting question

Second that. Coral type is very important. What are you looking to get?

That will help with lighting, flow, and if you need to prepare to suppliment

If money is no object, I vote vertex illumina 260 LED.

LED is where it's at if budget isn't an option. Every lighting system has it's pros and cons, you'll get a wealth of info in the lighting subforum.

I'm not sure about your budget and/or livestock plans, but I'm a big fan of T5 lighting. A 4 or 6 bulb fixture would allow you to sustain most everything you'd like to keep, including hard corals, clams and anemones. Look into a Tek light; they are very popular, mainly because it's a great quality plug-and-play fixture that won't break the bank. Coupled with quality bulbs (i.e. ATI, Giesemann, UVL), you'll be good to go. JMO.

the tank is 48" long 18" deep i have some sps and polyps varetie of corals..i have a four bulb t5 54watts each...but thinking about getting a metal halide 2 250 watts and it has 4 blue t5s in it ...

I have the 120g 48 x 24 x 24 and have the current 2 x 250w 20k. I like it and have good growth.

I'm partial to halides.

Over a standard 75 I'd recommend two 175w halides and 2 VHO actinics

OR

250w Radiums on their proper HQI ballast
