Lighting requirements help

Hi there, I have a 160, well you can read my system profile in my signature. However my question is this. I need help setting my lighting profiles. I know this has been covered probably. However I have 3 hydra lights over my 160 and I am looking to make the upgrade to hydra 52. However I want to either borrow a par meter or get one and I am curious of what should be the par for sps corals at the top of the tank and at the bottom? I have a mixed reef and it is slowly becoming more sps dominant. I would like to know what those par requirements should be and is measuring par the best way to dial in your lights? Or is it better to go by intensity. My theory is that the sun puts off a lot of intensity or light and it would seem to me that corals can handle much more than we think. Please help me figure this out. The settings I have now are not bleaching any corals but the colors could be better and so could growth. Would love some advice.
