Lighting

I would really like to get a nem specifically a BTA. I was wondering what is the minimum lighting that they would do well under? Also, what type of supplements may I need to add for a BTA? Thanks for the help.

I'd suggest nothing less than T5's. Although they are one of the "lesser" light demanding anemones...they still need a lot of light for survival. No supplements are needed...just make sure you keep your water quality high. Some feed their BTA, but I never did.

I currently have a 20 gallon high with just PC lights I think it might be 18" high The highest point of the rock work though is probably 4" or so from the surface and the light is set right across the top of the tank maybe 2" from surface of water. I have a CPR Bak-PAk skimmer and 1 Korallia 1 and a nano for circulation. It might be a little while before I actually get a BTA because I actually have to move from my apartment at school back home in a couple weeks after graduation. Just curious whether or not I needed to upgrade anything...I kind of figured my lighting would need to but thought I'd check with people that have actually kept them.

Any certain reason? Not to argue with you about it but the entire thought came from melev's nano. Just curious.

The reason hes saying that he doesn't suggest it is because they can get large with the right conditions and take up a majority of that tank. That being said, if you don't mind that then you can eliminate that problem. Another reason he stated that is prob because the smaller the tank the faster things like params, temp, salinity ect can change. How much watts are the pc's, how many and how old are the bulbs?

The bulbs are 5 months old and it is a 65w coralife 50/50...LFS suggested but then again I was only going to to fish...should have known I would want to get into corals and other light needy things. But anyway thanks for the advice. I did notice that on melev's build the BTA was taking over the tank and that he was talking about having that tank be only for the BTA so maybe I will wait until I upgrade my system then make that a nem tank.

I believe melev's nano is plumbed into his huge tank so its really not a size issue with his. I think what T4zalewz is saying is that 20 gals total water volume is not enough. They are very dirty creatures and can foul a small tank quickly, nems are very sensitive to water quality and will not tolerate excess waste. IMO, you are boarderline, you may get away with a very small specimen but it would outgrow your tank in no time, it would also require you keep water params near perfect meaning lots of water changes.

Yeah when I went back and looked at melevs thread it was plumbed into his larger system. Thanks for all the advice I really didn't know a whole lot about anemones other than they needed lots of light and needed near perfect water param's. I have decided to go ahead and forego getting a BTA for now and just wait until I can get a larger system setup. Again thanks for all the info & advise.
