You missed the poster.. he posted the same thing "wow cool" on like 5 different threads and all at once. (I think the post got removed)

I read the whole blog, no selective reading on my part.. I don't even know what was said..

I guess he didn't like my opinion much, and that really is all it was, and my convo was w/ OP, not him.
If I did what he calls selective reading, it was only because it trailed so far from the topic I was interested in, and I like many others really are just curious about the progress of breeding that clown.
I do agree maroons are tough to pair, and my worst pairing experience did take 3 tries and a couple months, but I was doing the most common method of getting a female to accept a new male, not the other way around.
I do see benefits from both ways, just my opinion(and that's all it is) is if that were my lightning, I would prefer the safer route of letting it become female so it doesn't get torn up or killed, and when you have the offspring you have the opportunity to pair them as you wish, just seems safer to me that way.

Fair enough, I did not like the whole part about the "troll", but I would not have been happy about some of the comments that were made. I feel he was very professional in how he handled the comments though. For the future I hope he stops worrying about what other people think and will focus on keeping us updated on the progress. Not trying to say he hasn't, I just want more! Greedy, I know!

I was wondering if there was more to the story, my bad. As far as the selective reading goes, you sort of restated exactly one of the techniques that Matt pederson talked about in his blog.

I really don't get that.. We are just having good conversation about the fish and his processes.. I really do not think anyone on this board has been overly critical at all. This should be good advertisement and get the word out more about his project. Very strange.. I was not expecting, nor wanting to be called out publicly on his blog.

I said I would be more patient. I wouldn't be trying what I would consider risky "pairing techniques" Yes i know you are doing what I all ready explained but I wouldn't be taking the "female" out of the specimen cup all the time, or trying "advanced techniques"

I have been supportive of your efforts on RC and don't understand why you would attack some lowly poster on RC.. Strange

Again, you must be doing some selective reading and missed the "IME" part. I explained earlier in the thread that I understood why you couldn't find you were having trouble pairing the two and that you were only using PNG maroons.

Again, attacking the poster that is supporting you buddy.. I don't get it.. I criticized your ecoexotic tank review.. Im a thread poster always in for some good banter.. thats all. You are taking things a little too seriously..

I was kinda trippin' on that too, to be quoted on a site I'm not a member of from a site that he is banned from!LOL
Oh well, the lightning got a lot of attention when it was first posted, so maybe being in the spotlight has made him a bit defensive.
Really I was just very curious since this was such a big deal back when, and I have heard very little about it, but I didn't realize he was banned from here.
The fact that he states reviewing products because he had nothing to talk about kinda validates the so called "trolls" point IMO on his wandering off subject(and what bored me from reading the whole drama thread)
Anyway, I was just questioning his techniques, which he assumed was bashing.
I think this thread alone shows some of us may disagree on techniques only to actually see other points of view posted by others and learn from our discussions.
 
Be careful... it appears that if you disagree you are either a troll, insulting him, and/or don't know what you are talking about. :)
 
it's been more than a year since lightning maroon was caught and went to M pederson...i have been reading his blog from biginning and it also surprised me why he needed to quotes from here...
may be the fact that the wholesale bashing he is facing from everywhere made him little offensive...though i think,considering his experience and previous achievements,he will eventually succeed..a important factor is maroon pair often seem to be reluctant to spawn even after successful pairing(mine is 1 year pairing,but yet to spawn)..it may take more time...so long way to go before any first gen babies make their way to market...
 
What is funny, is my first clown spawning was a maroon pair (( 10+ years ago )). I just bought 2 maroons (( they were both about the same size, but very small )), and put in a tank together. Less then a year later they were spawning regularly.

BTW -- I don't think I did anything special, just think I got really lucky. Though, some day (( if I have the space )) I would like to try another pair -- have a feeling things won't go as smoothly.
 
I think it could be easy again (or difficult in daveoceans exp.).. I had a pretty easy time pairing my maroons as well....... But I think if we had been forced to pair our male with another specific male as in matts case, (trying to pair the lighting PNG maroon, likely still male, with another specific individual male PNG maroon) could prove very difficult.

That would be tough (take a long time) with any of the clownfishes
 
That is a good point, out of all the clowns I have had spawn, they just started as two clowns I put together, and not one specific clown a tried to pair and spawn.
 
I don't mean to sound like it's real difficult to pair maroons, just my last experience combined w/ what I read on here puts them higher on the list among others.
But again I'm doing the most common method of pairing, so it seems a year is a bit long w/out having known all the details, which have not been posted or available here.
I do admit I never thought about the possibility of finding another lightning and what the chances were of finding a young juvy or male.
Just my first thought was something that unique if it were mine I would be thinking of it's survival foremost so you could breed it and the safest option on that would be let it become female and risk intro of males instead, especially since there is a limited time in his method before it becomes female anyway.

1. The guy is not a scientist so however he pairs the clown is from his expierence. Unless your a scientist or a diver or a collector you dont know what happens in the wild. How pairs come to be or how dominance plays out.

2. He tried to keep the same blood lines from png. Hoping that this maybe be a gene that would show up in clowns from this area. At the time there were no larger png fish available so he couldnt pair it so he tried to keep it male. ( i originally would have gone the route davocean layed out. Which i said originally. But with the smallest captive bred maroon. Out of every clutch of 100 your possibly gonna get 25 looking like ma and 25 like pa and 50 mixed. )

3. Its a blog and who cares what tank its in or where it needs to go personally i think someone is jealous that he got a cool tank to put the clown in.

4. Distracted? Do you guys know what going on in the world everyone is distracted. Pairing clowns is not his job.

Matt explained it out on another site and after that i cant really critize him. The fish isnt dead so that really all that matters. Its alive and doing well and still is the only opputunity to find out if this is an anomaly or a naturally occuring pattern

Have you studied clowns long term in natural conditions?

We are hobbyist not scientist
 
^^Well, even the fact that I've been a diver for 35 years now has little effect on my clown pairing knowledge, I don't think you need to be a diver at all.
We are not pairing in their natural environment.
And I can assure you there is no jealousy over anyone getting free stuff on my end, those company's are local here, and have been pretty generous to people around here that are on the boards often, myself included.
Don't take things so personally, there's nothing wrong in questioning people's methods or even disagreeing w/ someone's method, this is one way to learn more if you just keep an open mind.

Im not talking it personally but for some reason the guy who this is about cant respond here.

I mean a diver as in someone who is a proffesional marine photogrpaher or a collector who dives to collect the fish. Someone who works in our HOBBY full time, see population change, anemones move.

Thats my point, we are not pairing in nature so we cant automatically assume that how it happens for us, is how it goes. We spend hours and hour observing and assume that what we see is natural. By now we know that animals in a zoo or aquarium act different then in the wild.

Not everyone who keeps clowns keeps anemones with them. So how is that natural. Most breeders put them in clay pots, how is that even remotely close to what happens in nature.

When this first came out i also was not fond of what Matt did, but once explained and i took a step back i realized that i cant be all that critical. We are not accredited scientist, we all speak from expeirence in a glass box, we assume they act the same in our glass box as in the ocean.

I personally don't QT clowns with chemicals or a QT tank. I use anemones.
 
Yeah, it's too bad he was banned from here and can't speak for himself.
Apparently he abused fish sale privies which usually gets pretty good fair warning before being banned, not sure on those details, but he states it on his blog.
When that lightning was first posted and listed that it would be up for grabs, I think most on here were really hoping it would go in the hands of a responsible breeder, and not just to the highest bidder.
I don't know anything about this person so I have no opinion or comment towards him on that, I was just curious and questioning the fact he is doing something different in his pairing techniques.
Not calling it wrong or right, just not what I would have done.
At least we now have a little insight on what's up, and hey, he gets some publicity on a site that he can't comment on himself.
Hopefully something good comes from it, we'll see.
