lightning for gigantea

Only an opinion, but i would stick with metal halides, 250w or greater.

I've only ever had mine under halides, but 6 t5's must be fairly bright? How high are they over the water surface? I would have guessed it should be OK with t5's but I can't speak from experience. My two longest-kept gigantea's have been under 175W but in a shallow tank.
I think a couple years ago phender did an experiment where he had PC's over a gigantea, and the colour did fade out over time, and restored when he went back to halides. But they were PC's, T5-HO is a superior light to a PC I think.. FWIW.

I've had a Gigantea for 18 days now under 8 x 39w HO T5's. It's doing brilliantly. Has never shown any signs of stress. It hasn't lost any colour on the tentacles whatsoever, and underneath is slowly turning darker (tannish....it was absolutely white before). As I understand it, that's a good sign.
As I've listened to the advice of other, more experienced anemone keepers, I've grown to understand that, while lighting is very important, flow is equally important.
Based on my little experience so far (so take that with a grain of salt), I believe Gigantea's CAN be kept under HO T5's. But there are so many other factors going into it as well.

please post follow-ups. i'd like a Gigantea but wouldn't trade in my t5's for hid's.

Giganteas are really tricky, flow is key, along with lighting. The thing is I would say you need majority 10,000K T5 bulbs if you are going to go florescent. Anything bluer I would not recomend. It all depends on the setup and layout of rock and flow...
The key is random flow...so a spot where two power heads are pointed at each other and the flow of water intersect would be ideal...

FYI...Korallen-Zucht's "Coral Light" bulb has the coloration of a 14K bulb, but, as I understand it, is actually a 10K bulb. I just put two over my tank and I LOVE them. Along with a few of their Fiji Purple bulbs and my tank looks really nice.
