Lightning storm via LED lights?

I'm just curious about this. Several of the LED light manufacturers offer lightning storm function.

What's the point? Is there a scientific rationale or is it just bells & whistles.

I have mine set to storm 5% during setting changes throughout the day. Every now and then I notice the flashing, my fish don't seem to mind.

I am not a fan of the effect. I'm with Nook in regards to seizures, not relaxing at all imo. Tried it once and that was enough for me.

In regards to storms, I would think rough water stirring things up would be better for the tank than lighting. Once again just my opinion.

One effect that "may" provide some benefit is moonlight, but then again perhaps it is just the tidal pull of the moon that interacts with sea life. If moonlight doesn't help, at least it is soothing.

I agree on the moon lighting. If it were somehow timed to the moon phase for your local area's tides and local weather. It might be "more better" :D I wonder if it would help the coral spawn; that would be amazing.
It would be cool if I could set my MP40 to "storm" when the local barometric pressure changed and the G3 LED's did a lightning storm and clouds passing controlled by my apex or airport's app.

:D
I'm feeling good on a Friday night, cheers.
