We purchased our first clams in January at the Dallas Wave Conference. We have moved our SPS and clams to the new 180G display tank and added more specimens as they get out of quarantine.

Our clams are pictured below... All are still on the sand, but we plan to move at least the Crocea up on the live rock over the next few weeks.

I would appreciate any obeservations and suggestions from the experts on here.

Let's start with a question. This clam was sold to me as a Squamosa. I'm not so sure. Ideas?

One of the two 3" Crocea from the Dallas Wave:

Here's a 3-1/2" Crocea that we rescued from a local reefer who was breaking down his tank. It was covered in hair algae and its mantle was bleached when we got it...it looks healthy now (I think.)

Barry at Clams Direct came through with two nice 4" Crocea recenlty. We really love the markings on these beautiful creatures...

Finally, we purchased a 4-1/2" Teardrop Maxima from a local dealer. It is just out of quarantine, and its mantle wasn't out fully in this shot.

Care and feeding

Care and feeding

We have our clams in a tank that is heavy in SPS coral.

We dose Kalkwasser in the top-off water. Calcium is mantained between 425 and 450, ALK 10-12 DKH, MG 1250-1350, PH - 8.1, Temp 78-81.

Based on what I have read in this forum, I just started additional Carbon filtration in a small Phosphate reactor. I feed DT's Phytoplankton daily.

Lighting consists of (3) 250W MH 14K Phoenix bulbs on an 8-hour cycle, supplemented by (8) 39W T5 actinic bulbs on a 10 hour cycle.

the first clam is a derasa

Thanks for confirming that... after comparing it to the Derasa we received from Barry, I was pretty certain it wasn't a Squamosa...
