like your opinions on Natural Wave Timer by Aq.Systems

I busted my pump running a SCWD. I was wondering if anyone heard bad or good reviews about using the Aquaium systems natural wave timer (link below). I was thinking of using this with a few extra maxi-jet I have.

I know the benefits of having diffused/irregular currents in the tank but is it that detrimental not having it?
How many of you reefers don't use a wave makers and have a constant, steady water flow in your tank?

You could also try the Hydor Flo Rotating Water Deflector. I have 3 that have been in use for about 1 year without a problem. While they do decrease water-flow I believe the added diffused/irrefular currents that they create is worth it. And unlike the wavemakers that work by turning on/off teh power heads you don't have to worry about damaging teh poowerhead from rough starts

I never used a wave maker other than SSs only because it puts a lot of strain on the powerheads turning on and off all the time. I have had the same MJ1200s for years w/o any problems. I just keep them clean and move them around the tank to create different flow patterns.

Hey Chuck,

I have one of those jig-a-ma-thingys.

Works fine as a wave timer, you can plug 3 powerheads into it and two alternate while the third one does something different. Variable speeds on the switching.

Good for the money, I don't use mine anymore but it's a good thing to have for like a frag tank or something.

I'm curious, how did the SCWD damage the pump? I've been running two of them for about 1 1/2 years, each on a seperate pump without any problems.

No the SCWD did not damage the pump, I must have over tighten the pvc fitting to the male outflow connection. I was getting air seepage and when tried to find out where it was I broke off the threaded connection right where it meets the pump body.

the pump was a quite one 4000...

I like the scwd .... I just thought the wave making device might be cheaper then buying a better pump..

I'm using a OM Squirt and love the concept of actuator valves.. but anyhow the only pump I'd put on that timer would be a MJ1200.. nothing else could handle the on/off periods.. and still its inefficient..
