Lily's first reef! - updated

Thanks you all, it really helps knowing it's not just me, and that even you experts have battled these.
We bought chemi clean. This is the second dose. It looks like it's all but gone, maybe a 1/2" area left. That stuff works!

Regarding the magnesium, we'll be at 100ppm today. We've been adding 20 each day. Since it is a 29g tank i didnt want to go straight to 100ppm.
I'm not sure if it's affecting the byropsis yet but it does seem to be less crazy. I'm still manually removing too though im not sure if this helps.

Aside from the disappearing cyano, the biggest difference is seen in my zoas and various mushroom species. Now have their frilly skirts opening again and the bright colors are reappearing.

Yes, Jimmy that would be great if you don't mind :)

Thanks again guys, i've been kinda despondent about my tank, now there seems to be light at the end of this tunnel :)

Glad to hear the evil weed may have its days numbered...
Where did you get that baster you use to feed the corals in your video?

Love your tank!! I'm a little late lol, but chemi clean is really great. Had to use it years ago, and haven't had a problem since. Loved your video too; we also use selcon, just bought it a few weeks ago for a sick tang, (which we ended up losing anyway; just replaced him last week) but still use the selcon regular. My fiance calls it "magic in a bottle" LOL, thought our corals were doing great before, and I didn't know it was possible, but they look 10x better now!

Thanks Sarah. :)
You are right, i didn't realize how much my zoas/palys had paled, until recently they started getting more vivid in color, since uppng the mag and adding the chemiclean.
I guess that dang cyano chokes out alot of light and maybe chokes out oxygen too. I wish i was as smart with chemistry as the fellas in the chemistry section here are. I'd love to know how magnesium affects zoas and palythoa polyps. Especially since it seems to be working.

So far the cyano is gone exceptfor one inch area on the top rock.
The byropsis, still there, a couple more days of mag and we shall see.
I'm getting hair algae now so i think it's time to get a small urchin.

My wellso is letting go from it's skeleton.
The suck part is that the tissue is healthy looking it's plump, colorful, etc.
It's like it just can't handle the flow. We've turned the flow down, placed 'buffering' rocks around it. When this last string of flesh that is holding the entire thing on the skeleton breaks, then the entire 8" welkso will be rolling all over the tank, and subsequently i'll have to take this healthy looking flesh out of the tank. vAnd then after that take the skeleton out.
That's gonna suck, it'll will look like i'm throwing a huge healthy wellso away.
:-(

Here's a photo of what i'm talking about

Interesting "“ it looks very healthy. I don't know much about these corals but I wonder if it's just trying to adapt itself to the environment by reshaping itself and will eventually grow new skeletal tissue underneath.

Thanks Pete, and borderreef. The last string of flesh tore and he floated ariund the tank so i gently got him and kind of tucked him between his cleared skeleton and a small rock.

Be careful. The abrasivness (is that even a word) of the old skeleton and rock may puncture it. Maybe some 6" pvc and some way to keep it inside. I'm just thinking out loud again. Does it still eat?
