Lily's first reef! - updated

You all, can a trachyphyllia and a lobo come into contact with each other and be alright?
See the lobo in back of the trachy? they're about 1/2" from touching.

Love your tank! +1 on the gloves....I never remember and am constantly pulling half the skin off my fingers from the danged glue. Soon I will have no fingerprints and can commit crimes.

Thanks! Yeah, you're right, i finally got into the habit of using them so now i wear them whenever i put my hands in the tank.

Well after reading this from start to finish, it reminded me of my first tank which was also a Biocube. I miss it at times but nanos can be a pain sometimes. My biggest pet peeve was topping it off everynight or having a fear of burning out a pump.

But everything looks good. Love the LPS in the tank. IMO just need a nice acro up top to top it off lol.

I also wanted to mention if you can, get a ATO so itll help stabilize it as water evaporates, its so easy for water parameters to change.

But I did wanna comment on a few things.

First was the scooter blenny. We both made the same mistake. When I found out he was a dragonette....i was like what am I going to do. But I noticed one thing that gave me some hope. As I would feed my clowns, he would try to chase down mysis. So I started researching...and what I did was turn off all pumps during feeding and within 2 weeks he would zoom around the tank trying to catch the mysis. Scooters are very much more likely to eat prepared foods. Sorry for your loss. Id still have mine if he didnt go carpet surfing behind my 40 breeder. But that experience got me alot more knowledgable for the dragonette species and dont think I could own a tank with out one.

Secondly....the bristleworm topic. A 5 inch bristle worm isnt too big for that tank. Mine were close to a foot. But my hermits would force them back into the rock so I barely ever saw them.

Anyway....looks good. All thought....Id like to see more pics of that torch :p

nice monster paly. i seen it on their site and i clicked on it and after seeing the price im gonna have to pass lol looks good though. you gonna make a pretty penny when fragging those out.

Good info to know, thanks. We do have an auto top off. You too with the scooter blenny? Yeah, that sucked.
And yes, i guess the bristleworms are self regulating because there literally all gone.
Yes, i can absolutely take a fresh pic of the torch tonight.

Thanks! I probably won't frag and sell, i'm just not into that. I'm giving some rose nebulas because they're ridiculously growing like crazy things.
I hope the rasta does well because there's only one.

Just got done reading your whole post! Phew it has been long and..... awesome!!! .... and is that a Rasta you got there? I am so envious!!!
~Jo
Thanks Jo! Yes, it's a rasta. It looks metallic and is ridiculously pretty. I only have one so i sure am crossing my fingers. Do you have zoas too Jo?

I was given 2 rasta's a couple weeks ago and they are officially my favorite zoas. hopefully they defy the norm and grow fast.
omg seriously? How cool. Aren't they amazing looking?
I knew they'd look cool but i had no idea. Do you feed them? Also, do you find that they like bright light, or not so bright?

Yeah I have some zoos! I think I have over 20 different ones. Some of mine include Valentines Day Masacare, Purple People Eaters,Keds Reds, Eagle Eyes, Green Bay Packers, Dragon Eyes, Lunar Eclipse, Lord of The Rings, Maui Wowie, and a bunch I dont know the names to include some real pink zoanthids, some yellow zoanthids, orange zoathids, huge electric green palys, blue and orange palys, and some that sparkle brown and pink.... I could go on but the ones that I dont have are RASTAS! They are definately on my Wish List. :bounce1: Good luck with your frag!
I unlike a lot of people feed my corals. I usually baste them with frozen baby brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, chopped clams, finely chopped squid and cyclopeeze. I find that they grow really fast given a good meaty diet. It is also fun to watch them eat.

I also meant to mention that I have mine under T-5 actinics for 12 hours a day and 250W MH for 3 hours a day. I originally started with only Power Compacts and T-5 bulbs. my original zoos and palys did really well.
Under my clown you can see some of my zoos that almost took over my tank! I wish I was a better photographer than I am a zookeeper.

I've only had them for 3 weeks, I just looked at them and I think I see a third one starting to "bud". :celeb2:

What I've noticed is that too much light makes the green really pale, almost like a lime color. So unless you'd prefer that, I would say less light would allow them keep those rasta colors. I don't feed them.

You too with the scooter blenny?

Yeah I had him a year and he was a fat little thing too so wasnt starved one bit. But he jumped out when trying to catch a fish and I didnt know he jumped behind that tank. Needless to say, I was pretty upset about the whole thing. I wanna get another one
