Lime green algae

I have this really light lime green algae growing on my rocks, its not everywhere yet but its getting there.

I've never seen this kind before, its not fuzzy its not slimy to the touch, it almost looks like its been painted on. Anyone know what this algae might be and if its good or bad?

If it is very flat in may be coraline, but we really need pictures to tell. Coraline comes in multiple colors and is 100% harmless.

thats what I had read, that corraline starts out green and then turns pink and purple.

I'll try and post pics tomorrow the lights are off in the tank right now.

Hmm. Get the pics up!! I think I have the same thing going on. It's a thin bright green layer. I just got over a massive hair algae bloom and this was left behind.

ok here are some pics, help me out if you can...

I apologize for the quality, they were taken with my cell phone, I'll try and take better ones once I get my hands on my wifes nikkon lol

It's the predation of Coraline. Start looking for small flecks of pink/purple in the green areas.

My rocks had the same lime green algae 3 weeks ago, now about 25% of the rocks are covered with coraline and spreading fast! Also this morning I noticed it (red coraline) starting to grow on the back glass and the circulation pumps.

It seem like I have the same thing only mine is more like icing on a cake very whitish lime green. Is it coraline? I can't scrape it off. It's solid like.

Sometimes lime green on a rock can be the signs of phosphates leaching out from the rock, which can cause algae outbreaks such as hair algae. Other times it can be the signs of new coraline growth. I have heard many people that had phosphates leech out from pukani rock, unfortunately.
Have you tried testing your phosphates?

I have tested, the numbers are, PO4 0.15, NO3 2.0. The tank is only in 3 weeks of cycling. I do have an asterina star and some stomellas and lots of other white organisms that came with rocks. I'll try to get pics.

I tested my phosphates yesterday and they were 0 or at least close to 0 according to the API color card.

I did a water change today and tried scraping the green stuff off the highest rock just to see if it was slimy or if it would come off easily. The rock I'm referring to is the one in the last picture I posted, it had some darker green on it along with the lighter lime green. The darker green came off easily with a toothbrush and felt slimy, there wasn't much of it so I removed as much as I could, the lighter lime green stuff didn't come off so easily I actually had to scrape it with my nail in order to chip it away and even then it was very small amounts.

I'm only about a month in to the tank being up and a week and a half of the tank being cycled so I'm going to let this run its course and see how it develops, I'll keep this thread up to date to let everyone know how its going.

Have you seen any change from green to pink/purple coraline as was expected, or was it something else? I've got what seems to be the exact same thing going in my tank for about 3 weeks now (all still lime green) and just wondering how your story ended. I haven't had any real algae problems to speak of, and this stuff seems exactly as you described, so wondering if I've got coraline on the way.

Could you update w/ a few recent pics?

I have some bright green algae but my tank has only been up for about 2 1/2 months now. There are some pink and purple speckles in it though :-)
