I don't know if you've tried this yet Steven but I find the old step-at-a-time method often pays off with this type of venture.

Try taking your ACIII Pro into the room with your wireless router and use a cable to connect it to the router. Then work on getting AquaNotes to talk to it. It has been a while since I've done this configuration myself so I can't remember the details off the top of my head.

Then, only once you've got it running hardwired, connect it using the wireless adapter.

If you don't know that it works hardwired it adds too many unknowns to effectively troubleshoot the communications.

Oh, and what lvreefer says about the latest firmware is critical to running with the Linksys adapters. The latest firmware regularly sends a packet to keep the connection open.

You'll want to do the firmware upgrade hardwired anyway so I guess you can kill two birds with one stone if you have the older firmware.

You can go to the support section of the Neptune site to find the latest firmware (since you have a brand new ACIII you may already have it). I can't remember how to display what firmware your controller is running right now - I think it is displayed during power up.

I would suggest just using the built in webserver on the ACIII and then get AquaNotes running later.

Using the built in webserver you can program your ACIII, monitor parameters, manually control outputs, and graph your data.

When it comes right down to it you can actually do everything from the front panel of your ACIII. Programming it from the front panel would get a little tiresome, however.

Once you get the built-in webserver working getting AquaNotes up and running will be a piece of cake.

Here is my recommended sequence: (I don't have a manual at the office and at the moment I don't have time to download and refer to it some I'm going by memory - which can be dangerous. You've been warned

1) Configure primary network settings on your ACIII from its front panel. (IP address, subnet mask)

2) Connect the Linksys gaming adapter

3) Try to "ping" the ACIII from your desktop. If it doesn't respond to a ping you need to work out networking issues before you can deal with any other AquaNotes or programming issues.

In Windows click on "Start", then "Run" In the box type "cmd"
A black box with a command prompt will appear.
Type "ping" followed by the IP address of your ACIII
e.g. "ping 192.168,0.100"
Until you get the ACIII to respond this way you can't go any further

4) Try to connect with your ACIII using your web browser

Open your browser
Where you would normally put a website address (URL) just enter the IP address of the ACIII (no http, www, or anything).
It should ask you for a login and password.
If you didn't change them from the front panel you should be able to find the default values from your manual.

5) Once the web browser s working you can go to "Programming" and get to work :D

Between the front panel of your ACIII Pro and the web browser you'll be able to get your system up and operating.

The network can be a bit of a technical challenge but once you get it worked out you're set.

Once you've mastered that it's time for the next challenge: programming. The good news is that between the manual and especially the people on this forum you're in good shape.

Steven,

If you get hung up on step #3 here is what I strongly suggest.

Move your ACIII into the same area as your router and use a network cable to hardwire it to the router. If you can't get it to communicate this way adding the gaming adapter only complicates your problems.

If you can't get a ping or pull up the internal webserver while hardwired you know that you probably have a configuration issue on the ACIII.

Only once you get it communicating hardwired do I suggest returning to trying to get it operating wireless.

I know this can seem like a pain in the you-know-what but these extra steps can help you find the real problem.

I just hooked up my ACIII and let me tell you that Linksys Gaming Adapter was horrble. It would drop off line every couple of hours and I would have to restart the ACIII...not practical.

I returned it and got a Netgear HDX101 wireless ethernet adapter. It worked perfectly right out of the box...no issues whatsoever.

Hope this helps

Thanks Robsee I may need to do that as I still have like 23 days to take back my linksys and thanks for the specific model of the netgear that assists me a lot

I tried the Linksys game adaptor also. and could not make it work with my AC3 ... it would work with the Laptop but not the AC3...

I purchased a BUFFALO WLI-TX4-G54HP

this gives me 4 ports at the AC3 so I can just hook my laptop at the AC3 and configure everything right there when doing firmware upgrades etc.

and I can add a webcam at the tank , my UPS is on it .. etc. etc..

I like this alot and works very well.

Good Luck.

Dave

Thanks Dave sounds like I for sure went the wrong way with linksys i will need to check into both the adapters you and Rob talked about and cpmpare them and go from there but I definitely appreciate the response so thanks again
