my fiance wants an intresting fish in her tank to chose a trigger. i told her the trigger would eat the coral banded and corals. she was wondering about a lion fish. i don't know to much about lions with corals. any thoughts? she has a coral banded, large damsal, small clown fish, three anemones, zoas, leathers, frog spawn, and green sinulara

lon will eat any fish or shrimp that can fit in its mouth and even the little ones have bigggg!!! mouths!! not a good idea IMO

The only possibility that may work for you if you cannot convince to go another route....is a dwarf lion. They many time do well and do not eat tankmates if fed well otherwise. I also happen to think they look nicer too.

Any of the volitan lions would be a disaster.

I have a loin in my reef. He has been in there almost 6 months. So far he has not touched my mated pair of coral banded shrimp or the cleaner shrimp. Its a gamble I guess.

Its actually more likely in that case that the coral banded will kill your cleaner shrimp ...trustme I know this one ..had one with my mated pair of cleaners ..took them both out after 8 months of being in the tank together ...i was puzzled till i witness the second murder

yeah, i was looking into getting a dwarf lion. i'll get into the aggressive thread and post there. thanks guys

Well I had a fumanchu lion fish for about 4-5 yrs in my reef tank. One of the best fish I ever had .It was too friendly and very curious, had to see and know everything, he followed me from one side of my tank to another ,because I trained him to eat from my hand.Never bothered any other smaller fish or inverts. The only thing was that he would follow my hand inside of my tank when I was arranging thing or cleaning my glass,I got stung once and it hurt like a mofo .So I gave him to one of my C-sea bros ,but it died in about a month or so.He was like a faithfull little dog that I wish I would have never parted with.He would not eat for the person I gave it to.

I have a fuzzy dwarf lion. So far all my my fish are still there except my pearly jawfish. Have coral banded shrimp that are still there. Actually the damsels were more of a threat to the shrimp. The only concern of the smaller lion is to get them eating what the others are. Initially he/she was on live foods. Quickly got the hang of the dinner thing in the tank. So everytime I am spotted by it, it goes to the surface of the tank to await dinner. They seem to have a gr8 personality.
ps..I was hoping he would've taken care of some of the damsels but they all respect each others' personal space

I have a dwarf lion in a 29 gal. He's alone since he stung his only tankmate (clown) going after food. He eats frozen krill & once in awhile I'll buy him live ghost shrimp. As with Ceaser, he literally eats out of my hand. If I'm too slow, he spits water at me!

so what do they eat? does it have to be live? and being stung by a lion, whats the outcome..
Being stung is painfull as hell ,but I also got stung by a terantula before .Its about the same ,lionfish hurts a little more . You can feed it krill if he'll eat out of your hand ,since he knows its food that you have there for him.Gold fish.I'm telling you that I regret giving him away because like Dave Steward said they have a geat personality .If you would have enough time you could probably teach them tricks.I'm only talking about the Fumanchu lions and have no experience with others.Hey Frost you could probably teach your girlfriend tricks also(you know what time it is huh?) If she would refuse you could stick her hand in the tank
:love1:
