Lions & Eels

I am setting up a 5 foot tank in the office (law office) and think lionfish are probably the most impressive fish for clients to see. I also like eels (wife won't let me keep any at home).

What combination of lions/eels would be best in a 5 footer (18" x 60" x 30")?

I don't like snowflakes or ribbon eels.

Only eels I would try would be pebbletooths. There is too high of a risk of a pisco trying to eat the lion resulting in one or both dieing.

volitian lion- easy to maintain. adapt well to aquarium life. easier lion to train to eat frozen. fair prices for the most part that usually vary by size

zebra moray-most docile of the eels. easy to take car of. common and easier to get. fair price for the adult size of the eel

Ditto--
the safest- fish safe eel is a Zebra moray.
I've kept them w all forms of scorpionfish- never any problems.

+1 to the Echidna sp. eels. I prefer the zebra, personally, altho they're larger than the SFE, they're more mellow.

For your tank's size, I'd recommend nothing larger than a Pterois russelii (often referred to as "red volitans" or Russel's lionfish) if you want a large-bodied lionfish. Otherwise, go with one or two of the mid-bodied lions (P. mobassae, P. radiata, or P. antennata).

With an 18" front-to-back depth, a P. volitans won't have any "turnaround space", and will tend to just sit there rather than swim. Think of this fish as a 12"+ cube of fish, counting finnage.
