liopropoma rubre

Aren't you concerned about the Swissguard's loss of self-esteem when he's forced to compete for attention with the Candy basslet?

In a 450g tank? I have room enough for all the pretty fish :D
He will have to compete with my neoguinaicus, my achilles and soon my flame wrasse harem and my femininus. Oh and a regal pair. And they will all be loved equally

According to the LA compatibility chart, it is not recommended. However in your sized tank, I don't see an issue. The L. rubre is the more aggressive of the two but he may need a fish psychologist after gazing at the splendor of the liopropoma carmabi

So they have their own private ocean? My L. Rubre gets bullied by a barnicle blenny (1/10th his size) if that helps lol. Would love to see pics

Actually, that is not relevant. What is more relevant is whether the $900 candy basslet is going to get bullied by the $100 L. Rubre. In the ocean they can escape, in the OP tank, since it is large, there may be an easy escape. In smaller tanks, it may not work.

Lets make that 250$ instead of 900$. The rubre was about 65$
And they are kind of shy fish, the rubre has a pile of rocks and it sticks to it. Never leaves his pile. So if the carmabi chooses another pile and it stays close to his rocks everything will be fine. But still I don't like fish fights, no matter how much they cost. I want a peaceful tank.

Haven't found one yet, still searching. They are very hard to come by.
Especially at that price. I haven't seen a CB at anywhere that price in a long time.
I've never kept either of these fish; but know from experience that basslets can be feisty little fish when defending their domain. All the following is just a guess, of course. Though they come from different areas of the reef and have probably never seen the other species; they are so similar that I would expect them to regard each other as competitors or mates. Similar to putting a yellow and purple tang together, but not nearly as violent. If you end up with two males; you may have trouble, maybe not. I'm sure someone has kept these two fish together; someone, somewhere has done everything in this hobby with , at least a little, success. But I'm quite sure that there isn't any source that could offer much more than an educated guess.
Because Candy Basslets are so hard (and expensive) to collect at their home depth; divers naturally want to return with as much $$$ as they can. So they often collect pairs, and get a real price for them. In an ideal world; I'd get rid of the Swissguard and get the pair of Candys. Owning a mated pair of beautiful fish is a real (and rare) experience.

I generally agree with MrTuskfish. I do have a candy (wish I had a pair) but I am careful not to introduce a conspecific that may harass it. But if you find candy basslets at $250 please let me know.

I am not having this discussion again about price differences between countries. You will not find a candy basslet in the US for 250$ so don't ask me to notify anyone because I can't, unless you're willing to travel to europe..
The candy basslet is very rare atm, as far as I know there aren't any in the country and they aren't importing them. So i'll just have to wait a while.

It's cool. I just got excited at the $250 price tag and crushed when I found out you were from that side of the pond

And how were we supposed to know you lived in another country, sunshine?

You're supposed to remember all forum participants, their fish & equipment, and where they live. It was in the (very) fine print when you signed up.
(I'm glad this forum is more-or-less anonymous; anyone who knows me would know how hard it is for me not to make a tasteless comment regarding Europe.)

I try. But I am old so I have an excuse. It always seems that "certain" people remain "in memory" however.
