List of Captive Bred Fish

I did several searches before posting and the nearest thread I found was from 2006. The link contained within the thread, to get to the list of fish, was no longer valid. Perhaps I used the wrong terminology within my search string.

I am looking for a list of captive bred SW fish that are commercially available. Is there such a list floating around somewhere? I am only interested in the fish that would be compatible with corals, but it would still be interesting to see a complete list.

What are the positives and negatives (if any) of captive bred fish? One positive would be that wild animals are not being removed from their natural habitat. Are the colors as vibrant on captive breed species?

Thank you Jerseyhokie - I am somewhat surprised that there has not been an updated list produced, but then maybe no new species have been successfully bred in captivity.

I would love to get a couple captive bred Pajama Cardinal fish (Sphaeramia nematoptera) for my tank once it gets established. Very neat little fish IMO.

That's a good start for fish that are CB and commonly available. There are obviously other species that are CB as well that are slightly less common. Off the top of my head I can only think of Assessor flavissimus, but I know there are more.

I have breed Convict Blenny's. Then had to beg the lfs to buy them. Nobody wants them.

Really?.This is awesome.Many people suppose they should be easy but actually there are few if any reports.This is an interesting species and one of the few which lack pelagic larvae and the fry are cared for by the parents.
It will be very valuable for our community if you start a thread where you share with us all the details.

I have breed Convict Blenny's. Then had to beg the lfs to buy them. Nobody wants them.

They are interesting when small, but I know why they were not interested........they are a PITB as they gat large and many have wrecked havoc on people's systems......either directly or indirectly. Interesting fish though and great for a FO system.

They've been released to retail. I've had one for a few months and it is still doing well.

Thanks Luis but this fish draws very little intrest to start a thread with. The adults are 9" long & the only time you see them is when it's time to eat. Usually you just see a cloud with them digging holes in the sand bed.

As far as breeding, You notice one day a lot of babies around one of the holes in the sand. No other fish in my reef tank will even eat them. The parents will keep them close to the hole or in it . I syphoned out aprox.160 of them but only got 3 to sellable size. I caught the male & he is in my sump. He digs more than the female. Can't catch the female, my wife says they are smarter than the males.
