List of mantis shrimp sellers

Since everyone is always asking, I thought it would be a good idea to compile a list of websites that sell mantis shrimp. The site can either sell them continuously or occasionally. We can also keep tabs on what sites are good about identifying the species their selling, so we can refer people to the proper website.

I'll begin:

Blue Zoo Aquatics

Sells a variety of different species of mantis shrimps including the following:
- Peacock
- Smithii

From what I've seen, they do a great job identify the species they sell. I would say most people who have bought from that were pleased

Tampa Bay Saltwater

Has the $50 shipped to your door mantis shrimp, usually wennarae though I've heard of other species showing up.

I've used this service twice I was very pleased both times.

ccramer's caribbean critters

Sells N.Oesterdii, which is just like a N. Wennerae except more tolerant of light. Also have some Havanensis in stock.

They also sell feeder crabs for 2 dollars, which means cheap mantis food!

Shipping is very affordable, at $22 to California (or so ive gotten as the quote for a mantis + some CUC)

Sealifeinc.net

sells p. ciliata
Neogonodactylus curacaoensis
Neogonodactylus oerstedii
and Odontodactylus havanensis

Gives out freebies, could services (ive heard)

Bumme.....due tell sounds like a good story

Oh NO I haven't kept one.

But 1) you need a huge tank. 50>
2) it's really hard to find
3) it can't tolerate high light
4) it's prone to shell disease ,like super.
You need a deep deep Sandbed..

Its ridiculous. Hopefully, dr.Roy can chime in with his experiences :)

Stay on topic...

Need to run this one by the mods, I've seen them get touchy about throwing out rep for & shouts for non sponsors sites.

Having said that I know myself & a couple others have bought mantis from ibluewater.com. He more of less always has peacocks in stock, and can special order others.

My best success with both obtaining along with survival during shipping is with private collectors.

They ship out live stock all the time and do it with the most precision, the L.mac I recieved last night couldn't of been better prepared, also your more likely to get what you want with a private collector.

In fact to date alll the stomatopods I have were obtained via a private collector except for Rocky whom was found by chance at my LFS.

Private collectors are my go to and there usually the guys that need the most support so they really put effort into the sale in hopes you come back as opposed to full blown stores etc.

I re-assured the collector last night after I recived the L.mac that he will get a BIG list of 10-20 different species that I desire and to send them as he obtains them =) he was ecstatic to hear this. (O.japonicus is one =D)

Shame on you...

O. Japonicus should be the ONLY one ;)
