List of most reef safe Angelfish (excluding Genicanthus sp.).

Navarchus with an open brain? Big no no! Get rid of that coral or the fish will within the next year.
My Emperor is far less destructive than my Majestic ever was. Even my African Flameback was more destructive than my imp.
I also had a "Singapore" which was a good citizen after initially sampling some Acro polyps in the first few weeks in my aquarium.

Hey Gary,

Good to see your tank and emporer are still going strong. I've followed your tank for quite some time now.

Funny your emporer is such a model citizen. My one (as a juv.) ate just about anything it could ..... including tearing chunks out of leather corals, and actually eating them..... and shrooms..... even GSP's ......

I'm really gonna just play it by ear. Its a big coral and a small fish. If he starts ripping it up, I should be able to rescue it. I am encouraged by the excel spread sheet - but experience has tought me to that wild animals are unpredictable and with so many variables in play there is no substitute for diligence and swift action. Hopefully my majestic will be good like your emporer ..... since our emporers were polar opposites - LOL.

By the way, I've always thought your tank is one of the most natural looking reef tanks on RC. How big is your emp. now?

"Junior" is roughly 10-11" length. He will take certain zooanthids if really hungry. Never touches my Euphyllia. Don't know if he'd take leathers 'cause I don't have any. Doesn't bother my GSP's or shrooms, though. He will eat terminal Acro polyps if hard pressed.

I think one of the "secrets" to keeping any Angelfish in a reef aquarium is to keep them well fed. And you need to keep your corals healthy. Angelfish will nibble at sickly corals.

I love emperor angel and I added a jev to my 180...
it was a nightmare.. He ate everything.. Candy cane, acan, leather, sps...

It took me 3 days to catch that sucker... never again...

in dwarf the only angel i have had a problem with is ne golden angel which would eat only acans. the rest, potters, flames etc make the occasional peck but nothing serious.

In large angels similar experience with dwarfs where i had one regal that woud eat scolly, other regal were fine as was majestic just pecking here and there.

i can only account for my multibarred angels and they will pick at acros but never kill them. As stated above i once had a yellow tand that decided he liked acans and clams, needless to say I now believe that any fish has the ability to eat corals

I've had great luck with the more docile of the Pomacanthus Family, such as Asfur, or as mentioned above a Majestic Angel as juveniles. However more aggressive of the family (the french, or blueface) tend to do what ever they care to. This is not without its issues though, my home aquarium which has both an Asfur and a Majestic is completely free of brain corals, as the angels have decided they love to eat the mouths out of them.

That being said, given their natural diet no Large angel is going to be reef safe as they are consistent and aggressive grazers, however if you have healthy corals they can often either outgrow or fight off these very effective hunters. Angels are some of my favorite fish which is why I have, and recommend them in reef tanks. However if coral is your focus, I would never introduce a large angelfish.
