List your FOWLR setups

Hello I have a 55gal FOWLR setup and it is currently setup all wrong..

Since I have been reading I know I should have atleast 1lb of live rock per gallon of water..

I currently have 11lbs of live rock in a 55gal tank (ordering more I think maybe 60lbs of base rock from www.hirocks.com)

I am ordering a protein skimmer tonight also (CSS 65gal)

The fish in my tank are small 3" or so

Huma Huma Trigger
Nijer Trigger
Blonde Naso Tang
Dogface Puffer
Snowflake Eel

I am not operating with a sump just using 2 HOB Aquaclear filters which will have no media when I have enough live rock to filter.

I am on the right track with my plan right?

Im going to pre warn you about the bashing you may receive because of your fish list. So that you know ahead of time. The fish you have listed belong at least in a 180g tank if you choose to keep them all. The snowflake is really the only fish in the list that can stay in a 55g for a long time. With that said obviously you are new. So my advice to you is read alot of books and ask alot of questions. So you are off to a ok start. Unless you plan on getting a 150g+ tank very soon you need to get rid of most of your fish. They all get at least a 12" long. Live rock isnt as neccessary in a FO tank. What Id do is by 50 lbs of base rock and seed it with the live you have already. Hirocks is a great site to do that. The powerfilters will not handle the bio load that you fish will create. You are off to a ok start. Make some cuts on your fish list and with that $$ buy a pump, sump and overflow.

ya, 55 gallon is too small for all those fish. my blonde naso tang will be finding a new home shortly. i feel she out grew my 210. for a 55 gallon tank... i know your going for the "Bigger fish" but here is a list that sounds more appropriate

Flame angel
flame hawk
sixline wrasse
yellow tang (for most of it's life)
royal gramma
perc clowns

Wow, how long has this 55 gallon been running like the above?
Even with what your are adding as far as skimmer or liverock...
You need to be A. looking for a bigger..much bigger tank or
B. foster tanks more suitable for those fish.

Ugh, keep the 55 as a sump and get a tank at least 3x that size. That or rethink the stock list. It doesn't have to be expensive to do filtration well. A coralife skimmer or aquamedic are both good price/quality choices. A rubbermaid bin makes a wonderful sump. Some lighting eggcrate works wonders for building a bio ball setup. The BEST mechanical filtration is a sock made from coralife 100 micron fabric brand name Pureflo. Its about 5 bucks per sheet that makes several socks. They are totally reuseable and machine washable. Since you only do fish no need for expensive lights, basic single strip PC or 3 tube fluor are plenty. Get 90 percent base rock and a few nice pieces of LR.

Hope this helps
