Little bit of tap water

When I got my tank I did a leak test with regular tap water. I got out as much as I could... even got some paper towels to get the bottom completely dry which is no easy feet when its a 180 gallon. I know there is just a little bit of tap left in the overflow area which is impossible to get to. Is this going to cause any issues when I start to add saltwater?

Should cause you no problems...consider that small amount vs. 180 gallons...even if there was something undesirable in that tap (which I doubt is the case) the dilution alone would pretty much take care of it.

Nada. No problem. The problem with tap is chlorine/chloramine (negligible at that dilution) and minerals in wrong proportions (ditto) and a few outright poisons we can drink in minor amounts that fish can't (again, ditto.)

Thank you for the quick responses guys! And thank you for the info! Can't wait to finally start getting water in this tank!

Suggest rock down first, then sand, then water into bowl to prevent kick-up.

The sticky with the red arrow will head off a world of problems.

So the rock is down but I was planning on doing RO water next so I could just add the salt directly to the tank since it's such a large tank and then add sand since it's live.

No do not mix the salt while the rocks are in the tank. If you going to mix salt in the tank, you need to do it with nothing in there. Once mixed you can add your rocks and sand, but when adding the sand you will probably get a great deal of cloudy water. I like mixing mines outside the tank when filling a new tank.

Even though its dry rock? I'm not too worried about clouding because nothing is going in the tank for at least a month.

Is your water RO & DI or just RO? If only RO, I would strongly suggest adding a DI canister after the RO membrane. You want the TDS of your water (pre salt) to be zero.

Great.
