Little Magnifica

<a href=showthread.php?s=&postid=10567141#post10567141 target=_blank>Originally posted</a> by phender
I started to feed it the day after I got it.
I like to feed it a little everyday. I make sure that some of the Formua 1 or mysis that I feed the fish makes it into the anemone. About twice a week, I am feeding it finely chopped silverside or shrimp.
The one I had before seemed to have trouble with large pieces of food, so I'm trying to stay small and often.

Phil, be careful with silversides. I lost 3 giganteas and a mag to bad silvers and have vowed never to feed them again. Now it's strictly krill or shrimp along with the occasional mysis.

:D

I just use seafood for human consumption only, and only those that I know that are fresh and without additive.

Man this makes me worry a lot. Any idea how they went bad such as leaving it out to defrost or something?

Phender please post more pics!

This is the exact reason why I buy organic seafood.

There was no indication that the food was bad, never defrosted or anything like that. The brand was "Sallys Silversides".

Here is the Magnifica I purchased 2 day ago.

I am very excited

He seams to be in excellent health, and I plan on feeding him today.

My false percs found him in less than 6 hours after lights on. Finally, since I have had them w/ a LTA and Haddoni for nine months with no hosting.

GMSguy,
Thanks.

I am soooooo stoked, his mouth is very tight, but when I went to feed him the clown stole his food. Oh well, I will try again later.

The LFS where I got him had 5 good looking mags, 4 of which had a purple base and similar coloring to mine, the other was more of a golden color all over.

Thanks,
Aaron

55,
Yes I do, I thought they were OK to have together? I thought the only nem to keep away from was bta's?

I hope I was correct.

IMO it's really a tough call. I am not going to say you can or you can't keep the two together. Just remember both anemones you have right as of now get HUGE and both happen to be very aggressive. If you had to twist my arm, I would not have combined the two anemones together in the same tank. 75 gallons is just to small to keep two large Pacific anemones. See what others say.

Sorry if I am distracting the thread. I am trying to keep it Magnifica related here. :)

55,
I think I will set up a second tank, or 2 cubes for the two of them. or I might find a new home for the haddoni and lta and have a mag only tank. we will see....

You know what, I don't know why I am feeding silversides, because I have had the same suspicions.

I just bought a pack of silversides before I read the thread. I've always fed my nems silversides. Maybe I should toss the pack?

One thing to keep in mind is that whatever made Catastrophe's silverside's bad, may not be silverside specific. It could be a bacteria that was introduced some how at the manufacturer.

Could it be a reasonable assumption that by sticking with fresh seafood from the grocer would be the safest thing for anemone's?

I feed mine sporadically, lately its been small pieces of uncooked, shelled, peel and eat shrimp that I bought and defrost in RO water before feeding.

I hope this isn't hijacking but thought you might like some more magificas. Going on 7 months and growing.

Was the base of your Magnifica that purple color when you first bought it? Stunning anemone btw.

Well I don't use the Sally's brand. I use the prosalt brand, but it still has me thinking to toss it.

have you been using it in the past with no ill effects? From this package? If so, then I wouldnt worry about it. If its a fresh package, you might want to consider that.

Yes, the base was always that color. It has almost doubled in size over the last 6 months. Thanks.
