live food culturing

Ron Popeil

Love them clownfish.
how many people culture their own live foods?

has anyone noticed an improvment in spawning behavior because of live food feeding?

if you do culture your own live foods, which types and how do you do it?

I've read that feeding live Brine shrimp a few times a few to simulate a plankton bloom will encourage reluctant spawners. I've tried it a few times with no luck

BTW I culture Phtyo, rots,BBS

I culture rots and bbs too. My clarkii (who aren't spawning right now) first started after 3 weeks of feeding live brine twice a week.

Personally I wouldn't bother culturing phyto. Too much work for the return IMO. I feed phyto concentrate to my rots and when the bbs get older I load them with selcon.

I am going on a trip and when I get back I'll begin experimenting with yeast feed for rots.

The Clarkii I had started spawning a month after introducing live food and moon lighting. After years of culturing nano, rotifers and BBS, I don't culture foods anymore. Too time consuming and I'm not raising clowns anymore.

oh yeah... the other variable with the live brine was the addition of dim lights near the tank at night (actually rope lights on the deck about 12' away.)

I culture rotifers in an inverted carboy and feed DTs. and i hatch brine nearly every day and feed the BBS off immediately.
