Well good to see that all the valuable Info that Is on RC has Indeed not been lost! I like many was to fast to believe the rumors of RC's demise and relieved that It was not lost forever.

I was also a believer it was gone! Just goes to show you can never believe what you read online..... Even from dependable sources. Glad its back up!

I still think they need a email alert system, lol.... for all the addicts.

how would this club survive w/out RC?????

but if it went away, that might be the kick in the arse needed to get the MTRC website revised on a regular basis

LOL

It would not be hard. I already have a FOrum system up and running we could ahve easily switched to.

That said, RC clearly has lessons to learn about how to do disaster recovery. Had they simply had the "site is experiencing problems" message up from the get go, rumor flow would have been surely stemmed. Instead we got nastiness across the board which has left an ill feeling even though I did not rumor anything. This board is here to serve us, the community, and not the other way around. Especially those of us that pay.

Also, RC thinks they have a large database..not to me. For such a small operation, and I can say that, I am dissapointed considering the money they take in every month in their response to the issue. Problems happen, but being snide about them is rediculous. (end rant)

Perhaps now we can discuss our website and forums with greater appreciation for what is at stake, and why we want to run it by our rules? And if not, ok..I am just putting it out there.

Agreed.

With the amount of advertising and members that pay for the forum, redundant servers and proper backups should not even be given a second thought. Backup space is cheapand disaster recovery plans are easy to implement and follow through with.

Switching to another forum wouldn't be hard either.

Just my 2 cents.

I know the last two postings, know what they are talking about!!!! They are very valueable to the companies they work for in IT. What I can not beleive is that I did not receive an e-mail from Reef central as a member telling me they were working out a tech issue. I receive their letters on e-mail so why not a notice. I was not sure were to go for help, since I depend on this forum for all my help. I love sea life not computers. I would be lost without the help I get. Our club is special and needs to talk about alturnatives when this happens. See you at the next meeting I hope all officers will be there to talk. Thanks!!!!

Lets just say I have 3 seperate Raid 1's on seperate controllers in seperate systems with the same data, I just need offsite redundancy and I am safe. Paranoid? No. I just replace Hard drives in servers and workstations all day long.....

Well you know, Reefcentral had all of their data in the same server, too! That's why they're no longer here!

Wait....

:p

Well... I'll bet you don't have hardware raid! So what are you going to do when your motherboard dies???? :p :D

Listen I admitted I got bad info from a reputable source ;)

Now how do you know what raid controllers I am using? and why would anyone run software raid? I have always ran HW raid. I just hosed my own array before and had to manually recover it  and BTW to answer the question, integrated mobo raid controllers can be replaced. The array data is stored on the drives :smokin:

I remember your array mishap. :D

What RAID card do you have? I want one, but can only afford SATA1. ;)

I am running PERC cards and Intel ICH5R /Promise 378s . Most cards will have similar chips. Sata 1 is fine unless u are doing video editing or need hi thruput then you can do SAS.
