Live Rock... Help

Just started up a new 180g tank a few months ago, brand new live sand & sw. Running with G3 skimmer since day 1.
Kind of unlike me, a few weeks ago I decided to purchase a couple fish before adding live rock. I've got a large Powder Blue Tang and Blonde Naso Tang.

Now, I have this live rock that has been dry about 1 year. A couple weeks ago I decided to start washing it off, I'll admit I got busy and the rock has just been sitting in the barrell, pretty dry.
How harmful would it be to clean off the rock with freshwater and add into my tank, with fish inside? or without?:confused:

Any other suggetions are really appreciated :love1:

ALSO, lately i've noticed the powder blue isn't interested in eating, ive tried meaty frozen foods, vegetable/seaweed frozen foods, spectrum pellets, and sheets of green algae. Does this have something to do with being in a boring tank?? (no rock... friends... etc)

Like I said, not like me to add fish before rock, but I could'nt pass these up! :fish1::fish2:

THANKS :spin1:

How long has the tank been set up? Did you QT? Did you let the tank cycle? When I bought my tank it came with 2 45 gallon trash cans fuil of dry rock so I boiled it and now it is starting to turn live.

The tank was cycled 1 1/2 months before the fish were added. The fish have been in there for at least 2 weeks now. I'm not sure what QT is?... and by boil it you mean boiling hot water or in water in a dark area?

Thanks for the help :)

Hot water. QT=quarintine tank. You put tangs in with out QT? if so that was a bad move. See if you see any signs of diseases if you do treat acordingly. Nasos get way to big for your tank. I would do some research on QT if you havent and do research on fish you intend to keep. Powder blues are extremly agressive usauly and you may have trouble introducing other fish expecial other tangs.

Everywhere I've read said Nasos need a minimum of about 180g... being as hes not full size, and I plan to move him to a bigger tank when he is, I think he is just fine.

My problem with the powder blue has nothing to do with him being aggressive... but as for my questions, thanks for your help with the rock.

I know it is not a problem now but it might be later on. many dealers recomend a 180 but most every body on RC recomends a min of 240 some people (including me after seeing a big naso tang) recomend a 350. This is because they are very big and active but it is your desicion.

What are your ammonia and nitrite testing @?

Is there any live rock in the tank at all? If there is only sand the tank may not be cycled
